Position Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented Mechanical CAD Designer / Drafter to support fire suppression system projects design. This role is responsible for producing detailed mechanical design drawings, creating application and permit drawings, and maintaining existing drawings through the engineering change process.

The ideal candidate has strong 2D/3D drafting skills, experience with fire suppression systems, and a passion for hands-on design and modeling.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop detailed mechanical and electronic design drawings for new system/application design projects.
• Create fire suppression applications, permit, shop, and construction drawings
• Design layouts for piping, nozzles, valves, hangers, bracing, and related components
• Interpret architectural, structural, and mechanical plans to integrate fire suppression systems
• Apply applicable NFPA standards, local codes, and AHJ requirements to drawings
• Maintain and update existing product drawings
• Revise drawings based on redlines, design modifications, and AHJ comments
• Maintain drawing standards, layers, symbols, and title blocks
• Coordinate with project managers, engineers, and field teams to resolve design conflicts
• Prepare submittal packages and support permit approval processes
• Manage multiple projects and prioritize tasks based on customer and business needs

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Technology, CAD/Drafting, or related field (or equivalent experience)
• Strong knowledge of mechanical and electrical engineering drafting principles
• Proficiency in AutoCAD (2D required; 3D preferred)
• Experience with Autodesk Revit (preferred)
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel)
• Ability to read and interpret architectural and engineering plans
• Strong understanding of construction documents and drafting standards
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Strong time-management and organizational skills
• High attention to detail and accuracy

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience designing fire sprinkler and/or fire suppression systems
• Familiarity with NFPA 13, 13R, 13D, and related fire protection codes
• Experience with permit submittals and AHJ review processes
• Knowledge of hydraulic calculations and system design concepts
• Experience with BIM/Revit
• Prior experience in fire protection contracting or engineering environments
• Strong interest in 3D product modeling and hands-on design
