• Leadership and supervision experience valuable for education, recreation, and childcare careers
• A fun, team-oriented environment where your work makes a real impact

Requirements: This Job Is Not for Everyone

This is a high-energy, hands-on role. Counselors are on their feet most of the day, actively supervising children, managing group behavior, participating in outdoor activities, and swimming multiple times per week. The schedule requires full-day availability, and flexibility is essential.

Counselors who succeed in this role are dependable, engaged, and ready to take responsibility for safety and supervision at all times.

What We Are Seeking:

  • Upbeat, positive individuals ready to jump in and make a difference!
  • Team-driven staff that can follow directions and lead activities to ensure that the camp runs smoothly.
  • Responsible individuals who understand the importance of safety, vigilance, and order and can work effectively with little supervision in a fast-paced and highly energetic environment. A high level of responsibility and sound judgment is required.
  • Patience, creativity, and enthusiasm for working with children of various ages.
  • Outgoing and personable staff who know how to communicate effectively with youth, peers, and parents.
  • Organized staff that knows how to analyze a problem, use resources effectively, problem solve, and create solutions.
  • Individuals who are flexible, adaptable, and willing to “wear many hats” throughout the course of camp.
  • Counselors who exude positivity, encouraging youth to try their best, participate in all activities, and build relationships with campers and counselors alike.
  • Ability to manage and engage a group of children in fun, age-appropriate activities.

Ideal Candidates Will Have:

  • Coursework or degree path in Education, Child Development, Recreation, Kinesiology, or a related field
  • Prior experience working in youth programs or summer camps serving ages 5–11 is highly desired.
  • 2 years of summer day camp experience or residential youth camp experience.
  • 2 years’ experience in customer service.

Required Qualifications:

  • Candidates must be at least 18 years old before the camp starts.
  • Must have a valid CPR, First Aid, and AED certification prior to the start of camp (certification class will be provided during training).
  • Must be able to work all 9 weeks of camp, including July 4th week, and attend training the first week of June from 1- 4 pm.
  • Must have reliable transportation.
  • Must maintain a safe, inclusive, and welcoming environment for all participants

Typical Work Week Schedule:

The seasonal Summer Camp Counselor position will require working from the first week of June through the first full week of August. Training and camp setup will start the week prior to the first day of camp. All camp counselors are required to be available between 7:30 am and 6:00 pm Monday through Friday for the duration of the camp season. They must also be comfortable swimming at least 4 times a week.

Basic Position Requirements: This position is performed in both indoor and outdoor environments under all weather conditions. Candidates must be able to sit, stand, bend, and reach for extended periods. Candidates must have the mobility to move to and from various points within the District, including reliable transportation. Candidates must be able to speak, read, and write proficiently in English. Candidate must be able to lift, push, or pull a minimum of 50 lbs. Campers swim daily; staff must be comfortable swimming and standing in the water for long periods while supervising youth. This position may be required to perform other District duties not listed above.
