Position Summary:
The Intermodal Operations Specialist provides hands-on operational support to the Intermodal team by assisting with day-to-day carrier coordination, shipment tracking, and communication. This role offers exposure to intermodal logistics operations and supports service execution, issue resolution, and data accuracy while contributing to a fast-paced, team-oriented environment focused on operational excellence and customer satisfaction.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Monitor, track, and trace shipments with carrier partners to proactively provide updates to internal stakeholders. Identify, escalate, and help resolve service issues or risks of failure to appropriate internal contacts, such as Account Managers. Spot price opportunities accurately with available capacity Tender loads to appropriate carriers with correct information and confirm availability Mitigate accessorial charges (e.g., detention, rail storage) for customers by leveraging ETG insights and proactive communication. Ensure all required documentation, including PODs and supporting paperwork, is accurately saved in the TMS system. Provide world-class customer service through professional phone and email communication with carriers and customers. Support department goals and contribute to a positive, collaborative, and team-focused environment. Perform other duties as assigned to support operational excellence and customer satisfaction.
Competencies:
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills, Phone skills are a must Highly detail-oriented with a focus on accuracy and timely follow-through. Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. Comfortable working in a technology-driven setting, including TMS platforms and customer portals. Proficient with Microsoft 365 products (Outlook, Excel, Teams, etc.). Team-oriented mindset with a willingness to support shared goals and continuous improvement
Education/Experience:
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Business, Transportation, or a related field preferred One year logistics, customer service and/or hospitality industry experience Intermodal operations/customer service specific experience preferred but not required Ability to communicate professionally via phone and email Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office tools (Outlook, Excel, Teams) Ability to manage multiple tasks, follow processes, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
