The City of Bothell’s Community Development Department is seeking an experienced professional to serve as the city’s Building Official and provide strategic and visionary leadership for the Building Services Division! Under the direction of the Community Development Director, this position will manage a multidisciplinary team; oversee inspections, plan reviews, and code enforcement; interpret building codes; and streamline operations leading to a supportive and enriching work culture. The Building Official will engage in authentic collaboration and reinforce organizational values for a welcoming community with a common purpose providing impactful services towards a sustainable future.

What will you do in this position?

  • Lead and manage the Building Services Division responsible for reviewing permit applications, evaluating plans, and inspecting construction projects;
  • Prioritize multiple tasks, projects and demands, and directly collaborate with other city departments.
  • Prepare project status reports and evaluate Division performance.
  • Complete code interpretations, code research, and review requests for alternate methods/materials.
  • Issue and oversee certificates of occupancy, notices of violation, stop-work orders, permits for temporary structures/uses; exercise of Right of Entry; and direct abatement and/or removal of unsafe structures.

  • Collaborate with both external and internal customers to foster strong and successful partnerships.
  • Evaluate and prioritize various tasks, projects, and demands effectively.
  • Receive new ideas and other perspectives openly.
  • Ensure clear and efficient communication of information and ideas through diverse communication channels.
  • Embody the City's core values, lead by example, and ensure the organization's vision and values guide decision-making and actions.
