Job Description

Business Architect

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Business Architect based in United States.

The Business Architect will shape the business and technical architecture supporting a major federal healthcare modernization portfolio. This role will analyze current-state capabilities and design future-state processes, requirements, business rules, and information flows. You will act as a critical bridge between operational stakeholders, program leadership, data and technical teams, and government IT organizations. Your work will help translate complex healthcare payer and EDI requirements into practical architecture and implementation artifacts. The role also contributes to automation, data integration, migration, testing, and process improvement initiatives. This is an opportunity to influence large-scale modernization efforts designed to improve efficiency, reduce operational friction, and deliver stronger outcomes for veterans and their families.

Accountabilities:

As Business Architect, you will lead requirements analysis, business process design, and architecture documentation while ensuring modernization initiatives remain aligned with operational needs and strategic objectives.

  • Facilitate requirements-gathering and process-design sessions with business, program, technical, and operational stakeholders.
  • Analyze current-state processes and design future-state workflows that reduce manual effort, rework, processing time, and operational bottlenecks.
  • Identify process dependencies, gaps, risks, redundancies, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Develop business architecture diagrams, process flows, context diagrams, capability models, business rules, use cases, user stories, and requirements documentation.
  • Draft Companion Guides and extend Technical Reference 3 requirements into business-focused compliance rules using X.12 and NCPDP standards.
  • Develop standard operating procedures documenting healthcare payer EDI business processes.
  • Translate business requirements into detailed functional and technical requirements for IT and development teams.
  • Define business rules supporting automation, straight-through processing, front-end data extraction, EDI, and other modernization initiatives.
  • Maintain production defect and issue tracking and requirements traceability across business needs, functional requirements, technical implementation, testing, and delivered capabilities.
  • Partner with data architects, engineers, analysts, EDI subject-matter experts, and program or project managers on data integration, migration, and current- and future-state data models.
  • Develop system-context views supporting system migration initiatives.
  • Support end-to-end and User Acceptance Testing by ensuring test scenarios and cases adequately validate business requirements and intended operational outcomes.
  • Ensure modernization solutions remain aligned with strategic priorities, governance requirements, operational needs, and desired business outcomes.

Requirements:

The ideal candidate combines strong business architecture and requirements engineering expertise with experience supporting complex modernization initiatives, preferably within healthcare or federal environments.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Information Systems, Healthcare Administration, Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • 5+ years of experience in business analysis, business architecture, or requirements engineering.
  • Experience supporting large-scale modernization, digital transformation, healthcare, or federal programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop business architecture diagrams, process flows, context diagrams, capability models, business rules, use cases, and requirements traceability matrices.
  • Proven experience translating business requirements into detailed functional and technical requirements for development or technical teams.
  • Experience supporting data integration, migration, or system modernization initiatives alongside data architects and engineers.
  • Experience supporting User Acceptance Testing, including developing or validating test cases and scenarios against business requirements.
  • Strong facilitation, stakeholder-management, written communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Federal healthcare or healthcare payer experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with Electronic Data Interchange standards such as X.12 and NCPDP is preferred.
  • Experience with healthcare claims, eligibility, provider transactions, and related compliance requirements is a plus.
  • Experience with RPA, automated data ingestion or extraction, or machine learning-enabled process improvement is desirable.
  • Experience developing change management or organizational adoption materials for technology or process modernization is beneficial.
  • Familiarity with Agile and traditional or hybrid project-management methodologies is preferred.

Benefits:

  • Remote position available nationwide across the United States.
  • Full-time employment.
  • Opportunity to contribute to large-scale federal healthcare modernization initiatives.
  • Work spanning business architecture, healthcare operations, data integration, EDI, automation, and technology transformation.
  • Collaboration with multidisciplinary business, technical, data, and program teams.
  • Opportunity to influence processes and technology supporting services for veterans and their families.
  • Equal opportunity workplace with reasonable accommodations available for qualified individuals.
