Job Description

Technical Accounting & SEC Reporting Specialist

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Technical Accounting & SEC Reporting Specialist based in United States.

This opportunity is designed for an experienced accounting professional with deep expertise in technical accounting and external reporting.
You will transform real-world accounting judgment and reporting experience into structured, high-quality training data for advanced AI systems.
The work centers on complex accounting standards, including revenue, leases, stock compensation, and business combinations.
You will assess AI-generated outputs for technical accuracy, sound reasoning, appropriate support, and professional quality.
Your expertise will directly help improve how AI systems interpret and reason through complex accounting scenarios.
The engagement is fully remote and asynchronous, allowing you to contribute alongside your existing professional commitments.
It offers an opportunity to apply your specialized knowledge to an emerging intersection of accounting, technology, and AI research.

Accountabilities
  • Design realistic, domain-specific scenarios based on hands-on technical accounting and SEC reporting experience, including accounting memos, schedules, filings, footnotes, disclosures, and complex ASC applications.
  • Evaluate and compare AI-generated technical accounting outputs for accurate conclusions, appropriate application of accounting standards, and defensible supporting rationale.
  • Review AI-generated work involving areas such as ASC 606 revenue recognition, ASC 842 leases, ASC 718 stock compensation, and ASC 805 business combinations.
  • Identify technical inaccuracies, gaps in reasoning, unsupported conclusions, and other issues affecting the quality of accounting outputs.
  • Provide clear, structured written feedback to help improve AI performance in technical accounting and external reporting tasks.
  • Collaborate asynchronously with a research team to support the development of high-quality accounting training data.
  • Apply professional judgment and practical accounting experience while maintaining a high standard of accuracy and attention to detail.
Requirements:
  • 5+ years of relevant professional experience in technical accounting and/or SEC reporting, with substantial hands-on exposure to complex accounting standards.
  • Experience in Big 4 public accounting or public-company technical accounting/SEC reporting is strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated practical expertise with ASC 606, ASC 842, ASC 718, and ASC 805; general audit experience alone is not sufficient.
  • CPA certification required or strongly preferred based on the role requirements.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Strong written communication skills and the ability to explain complex accounting judgments clearly and precisely.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, analytical thinking, and professional judgment.
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively with a distributed research team.
  • Comfortable reviewing documents, schedules, disclosures, and other accounting materials for technical accuracy and quality.
Benefits:
  • Compensation: $80–$120 per hour.
  • Remote engagement: Work fully remotely from the United States.
  • Flexible schedule: Complete assignments asynchronously and manage your work around your availability.
  • Independent contractor arrangement: Participate on a project-based basis without a traditional full-time employment commitment.
  • AI research impact: Help shape how emerging AI systems reason about complex technical accounting and SEC reporting.
  • Specialized work: Apply your professional expertise to realistic accounting scenarios and advanced AI evaluation tasks.
  • Weekly payments: Compensation is paid weekly through Stripe or Wise based on services completed.
  • Project flexibility: Projects may be extended, shortened, or concluded early depending on project needs and performance.
  • Privacy-conscious engagement: Work does not require access to confidential or proprietary information belonging to an employer, client, or institution.
  • Eligibility note: H-1B and STEM OPT candidates are not supported for this engagement.
