Job Summary
As an Industrial QA/QC Specialist at Hutton, you will be responsible for quality assurance and quality control activities from preconstruction through project closeout. You will verify that construction work, materials, equipment, and documentation comply with contract documents, applicable requirements, manufacturer recommendations, testing requirements, and Hutton standards.
The QA/QC Specialist works with project managers, superintendents, engineers, designers, clients, subcontractors, trade partners, and other project stakeholders to identify quality concerns, document findings, coordinate corrective actions, and verify resolution. This position also leads QA/QC activities during preconstruction, provides field coaching and mentoring, and assists the Industrial Team Leader with developing and updating Hutton QA/QC procedures
Key Responsibilities
- Perform QA/QC inspections throughout construction to verify civil, earthwork, underground utilities, foundations, structural steel, equipment setting and alignment, process piping, mechanical systems, and other industrial construction activities comply with approved drawings, specifications, codes, standards, manufacturer requirements, and project requirements.
- Verify materials, equipment, and products conform to approved submittals, specifications, manufacturer requirements, and project documentation; review applicable material certifications, inspection reports, and testing records.
- Lead QA/QC activities during preconstruction, including QA/QC portions of preconstruction meetings, review of drawings and specifications, identification of quality risks, and development of project-specific inspection, testing, and documentation requirements.
- Identify, document, and communicate quality deficiencies and nonconforming work, coordinate corrective actions with project teams and trade partners, and verify that deficiencies are properly resolved and closed.
- Maintain accurate and organized QA/QC documentation, including inspection reports, photographs, testing and inspection records, deficiency reports, corrective actions, and project closeout documentation.
- Provide field coaching and mentoring for project teams and trade partners regarding quality expectations, construction practices, inspection requirements, and documentation.
- Work collaboratively with project managers, superintendents, engineers, designers, clients, subcontractors, trade partners, testing agencies, inspectors, and other stakeholders to establish quality expectations and resolve quality issues.
- Assist the Industrial Team Leader with developing and updating Hutton QA/QC procedures, identifying recurring quality issues, sharing lessons learned, and implementing practical improvements that reduce rework and improve project execution.
Preferred Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's or associate degree in relevant architectural, engineering, or construction management program
- At least five years of construction site leadership or equivalent experience
- Five years of industrial QA/QC specific experience
- Certified Welding Inspector (CWI)
Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Strong reasoning and problem-solving skills to evaluate solutions and resolve issues effectively.
- Knowledge of construction manufacturers, building codes, design documents, inspection procedures, site control, and scheduling.
- Ability to read, interpret, and communicate plans, specifications, and field-testing protocols.
- Proficient in organizing work, maintaining attention to detail, and completing tasks thoroughly and accurately.
- Leadership ability to train, motivate, and guide others while maintaining a safe work environment.
- Effective verbal, written, and technical communication skills with ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
Preferred Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Proficiency with Bluebeam and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Familiarity with Autodesk Suite.
Work Environment:
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
- Ability to work out of town multiple days per week for multiple months as needed.
- Must be able to lift to 25 pounds at times
- Ability to navigate active construction sites as required to conduct QA/QC inspections
