About the Role

We are looking for a talented Assistant Editor to join our Academic Division who will be responsible for providing administrative and research support to the Senior Editor and Editors, with the overall aim of enabling them to successfully manage and grow the list of Japan journals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Produce reports providing a range of key information on each journal in order to inform performance and strategy discussions between the Senior Editor and Editors, external editors and society officers and to maintain strong relationships with editors and societies.
  • Carry out research in order to support journal management, development and commissioning work where specific information is required.
  • Provide administrative support, including arranging and taking minutes at meetings, to the Senior Editor and Editors, for the list of titles, in order to enable them to successfully and efficiently perform their management, development and commissioning roles.
  • Maintain editorial board pages and other pages of journal websites as necessary.
  • Respond to and deal with queries from authors, external editors and society officers, where necessary contacting production, permissions, marketing, finance and other relevant departments in the Oxford office.
  • Liaise with typesetters and local printers to ensure print files are delivered on time and according to specific arrangements for relevant journals.
  • Deputise for the Senior Editor and Editors in their absence – including responding to emails and occasionally attending meetings.

About You

Essential:

  • Degree qualification in a relevant discipline
  • Excellent time management and prioritisation skills
  • Excellent communication skills in English and Japanese
  • Computer literacy, including with the Microsoft Office suite
