Materials Planner
Summary;
The Materials Planner is responsible for planning, coordinating, and tracking the materials required to support pipe spool fabrication operations at our Walker facility. This position reviews project drawings and material requirements to determine the quantities and specifications of pipe, fittings, flanges, valves, and related materials needed for each job.
The Materials Planner ensures materials are properly requisitioned and available when required by the fabrication shop, while continuously monitoring orders and deliveries through final receipt and availability on the shop floor. This role works closely with Project Management, Procurement, Engineering, and Shop Operations to help ensure materials are available on time and production schedules remain on track.
Responsibilities:
- Perform detailed material takeoffs from piping isometrics and translate the identified pipe, fittings, flanges, valves, and other required materials into accurate bills of material.
- Compare drawing requirements against purchased and available materials; identify and resolve discrepancies.
- Prepare material requisitions based on required need dates and track outstanding, delayed, and late materials.
- Prepare and maintain weekly material forecasts for assigned projects.
- Work with Shop Operations, Project Management, and Procurement to identify and resolve material issues that may delay spool fabrication.
Education and Experience:
- Ability to read piping isometrics or shop drawings and perform accurate material takeoffs.
- Experience working daily in an ERP system to manage materials; JDE experience is preferred but not required.
- Strong Excel skills, including lookups, pivot tables, and working with large data sets is required.
- Experience preparing purchase requisitions and tracking materials against project and production schedules.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy when managing high volumes of material data and transactions.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to reach, stand, walk, use fingers, grasp, feel, talk, hear, see and perform repetitive motions.
- Sedentary work: Exerting up to 10 lbs. of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time.
- Ability to reach with hands or arms, stand, walk, use hands or fingers, grip, grasp, talk, hear, see, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl and to perform repetitive motions.
- Ability to sit at a desk and operate computer for extended periods of time.
- The ability to lift and carry 15 lbs. on a regular basis is required and at times lifting up to 25 lbs. may be required.
