Position Summary

Overton Industries is looking for an Industrial Engineering Intern to support our manufacturing operations for Summer 2027. This role is focused on strengthening the systems that keep our shop floor running efficiently — improving documentation, tightening process control, and streamlining workflows. You'll work directly with engineers, operators, and leadership on projects that have a visible, lasting impact on how we manufacture.

Key Responsibilities

• Document current manufacturing processes and standard work, identifying gaps and opportunities for improvement.
• Support process control initiatives, including data collection, analysis, and recommendations to reduce variation and defects.
• Map and improve production workflows to reduce waste and improve throughput.
• Partner with operators and supervisors to capture floor-level knowledge and translate it into clear, usable documentation.
• Assist with root cause analysis and continuous improvement projects.
• Help develop or refine visual aids, work instructions, and process control plans.
• Present findings and recommendations to engineering and operations leadership.

Qualifications

• Education: Currently pursuing a degree in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.
• Skills:
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel in particular); familiarity with process mapping or CAD tools is a plus.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience with any of the following is a bonus (not required); SolidWorks, MasterCam, AutoCAD, JobBOSS, or Wintriss press/machine monitoring systems.
