The Associate Director, Customer Energy Solutions will lead research, evaluation, and advisory initiatives that help shape the future of energy programs and customer-focused solutions.
This role combines strategic consulting, analytical expertise, and project leadership to deliver meaningful outcomes for clients in a rapidly evolving industry.

The Associate Director, Customer Energy Solutions will oversee consulting engagements from strategy through delivery, ensuring high-quality research, evaluation, and advisory services. This role requires strong project leadership, client management, analytical thinking, and the ability to transform complex information into practical recommendations.
- Manage client relationships by identifying needs, risks, opportunities, and developing tailored research and evaluation strategies.
- Lead the execution of research, evaluation, and advisory projects while ensuring client satisfaction and successful outcomes.
- Design innovative research and evaluation approaches aligned with industry best practices and client objectives.
- Lead multidisciplinary project teams and coordinate resources to deliver projects on time, within scope, and within budget.
- Manage project schedules, budgets, quality standards, and contractual requirements.
- Communicate complex research methodologies, technical findings, and recommendations clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Establish and support quality assurance processes to maintain high standards across project deliverables.
- Review and improve analyses, reports, presentations, and client-facing materials to ensure accuracy and actionable insights.
- Develop client-facing reports, presentations, and strategic recommendations based on research findings.
- Design and lead qualitative research initiatives, including interviews, focus groups, thematic analysis, and other research methods.
- Design and lead quantitative research efforts, including survey development, statistical analysis, data collection, and interpretation.
- Supervise, coach, and mentor junior consulting professionals to support team development and career growth.
- Contribute to thought leadership, business development activities, and industry knowledge sharing when needed.
The ideal candidate brings extensive experience in research, consulting, evaluation, and project leadership, with the ability to manage complex initiatives and communicate insights effectively. A strong understanding of energy, utilities, or related industries is highly valuable.
- Approximately 7+ years of professional experience, including at least 5 years designing and implementing energy research and evaluation projects.
- Bachelor’s degree in social sciences, engineering, or a related field.
- Demonstrated experience leading research and evaluation studies from initial design through final delivery.
- Strong qualitative research expertise, including conducting interviews, focus groups, thematic analysis, and synthesizing complex information into recommendations.
- Strong quantitative research skills, including survey design, statistical methods, data analysis, and interpretation.
- Proven ability to manage consulting projects, including scope, timelines, budgets, resources, and quality assurance.
- Experience building trusted relationships with clients and acting as a strategic advisor.
- Ability to analyze complex information and communicate clear, practical recommendations.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with experience creating professional reports, presentations, and executive-level materials.
- Ability to collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary teams and diverse perspectives.
- Comfortable working through ambiguity, identifying challenges, and developing creative solutions.
- Experience coaching, mentoring, or managing junior team members.
- Familiarity with impact evaluations, process evaluations, and market assessments.
- Experience in utilities, energy, consulting, research, or adjacent industries preferred.
- Knowledge of energy policy, regulatory frameworks, or program environments is a plus.
- Experience contributing to proposals, business development efforts, or industry presentations is preferred.
- Competitive salary range of $120,000–$150,000 USD plus annual bonus opportunity, with final compensation based on experience and qualifications.
