Civil DesignerPosition Summary
The Civil Designer supports the preparation of build-specific civil construction drawings and field layout information for residential home construction. Working under the direction of senior design staff, this role assists with developing preliminary and final site plans, preparing construction documents, and generating staking and layout files used by field crews and surveyors.
This position is intended for an individual with a strong CAD background who is looking to grow their technical skills in residential civil design.
Primary Responsibilities· Assist in the preparation of preliminary and final site plan sets for individual residential home sites.
· Produce and revise civil construction drawings using company drafting standards.
· Assist with site layout, grading, drainage, utility, and erosion control plans for individual home builds.
· Prepare staking, layout, and machine control files for construction crews and surveyors using Civil 3D and AGTEK.
· Support field personnel by providing accurate layout information and responding to staking requests.
· Incorporate revisions based on engineering markups, permitting comments, and internal reviews.
· Maintain organized project files and drawing documentation.
· Coordinate with engineering, surveying, and construction teams to ensure plans accurately reflect field conditions.
· Perform basic earthwork calculations and quantity takeoffs as needed.
· Participate in continuous improvement of drafting standards and design processes.
· Continue developing technical knowledge through training and project experience.
Required Qualifications· Associate’s degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Drafting, Surveying, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
· Experience using civil CAD software is required.
· Willingness and ability to learn Autodesk Civil 3D and AGTEK.
· Strong understanding of CAD drafting principles and drawing organization.
· Ability to read and interpret civil construction plans.
· Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
· Effective communication and the ability to work in a collaborative team environment.
Preferred Qualifications· Experience with Autodesk Civil 3D.
· Experience with AGTEK.
· Experience preparing staking or field layout files.
· Knowledge of residential site development and construction practices.
