Job Description
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Staff SDET Engineer based in Brazil.
This is a high-impact individual contributor role for a Staff-level quality engineering professional who can shape automation strategy across the software development lifecycle. You will architect and evolve scalable, reliable test automation frameworks spanning web applications, APIs, and backend services. The role combines deep technical expertise with influence, mentorship, and ownership of quality engineering practices. You’ll help embed testing earlier in development, strengthen CI/CD quality gates, and improve confidence in production releases. The environment is highly collaborative and distributed, with opportunities to influence engineering standards and long-term quality strategy. You’ll also explore emerging technologies, including AI-assisted development and innovative testing methodologies, to continuously improve how software quality is delivered. This is an ideal opportunity for a technically strong SDET who wants to raise the quality bar across an engineering organization.
- Architect, design, develop, and maintain highly scalable, reliable, and maintainable test automation frameworks across web applications, APIs, backend services, and multiple platforms.
- Establish technical direction for testing methodologies, automation tools, frameworks, and engineering best practices.
- Evaluate, introduce, and integrate new automation technologies and testing approaches into the existing quality engineering ecosystem.
- Drive high standards for test code quality, architecture, structure, readability, and maintainability through code reviews and engineering guidelines.
- Design and execute advanced non-functional testing strategies, including performance and load testing, and integrate these capabilities into CI/CD pipelines.
- Partner with engineering and product teams to promote Shift-Left testing and embed quality practices throughout the development lifecycle.
- Define and implement robust quality gates, automation coverage standards, and feedback mechanisms that help prevent defects from reaching production.
- Own and optimize automated test integration within CI/CD pipelines to enable fast feedback and reliable software delivery.
- Investigate and troubleshoot complex test and system failures, identifying root causes across application code, infrastructure, and test automation.
- Analyze defect trends and patterns to identify systemic quality issues and guide continuous improvement initiatives.
- Mentor junior and mid-level SDETs and software engineers on automation architecture, testing strategies, technical design, and effective quality practices.
- Create and maintain comprehensive documentation covering test strategies, automation frameworks, standards, and best practices to enable self-service quality engineering.
- Contribute to long-term quality engineering roadmaps, architecture decisions, tooling strategies, and technology choices alongside engineering leadership.
- Serve as a technical thought leader and advocate for engineering excellence, constructively challenging existing practices and influencing technical decisions across teams.
- Explore and promote emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence and innovative testing methodologies, when they can improve engineering productivity and software quality.
- Extensive professional experience in Software Development Engineering in Test (SDET), Quality Engineering, Test Automation, or a closely related engineering discipline, with demonstrated Staff-level technical leadership.
- Demonstrated expertise with the Playwright automation framework and advanced proficiency in JavaScript or TypeScript.
- Proven experience architecting and implementing CI/CD pipeline solutions and integrating automated testing into continuous delivery workflows.
- Comprehensive knowledge of REST API testing methodologies, automation approaches, and relevant testing tools.
- Strong understanding of software engineering principles, test architecture, automation design, and maintainable code practices.
- Advanced analytical skills, with the ability to identify patterns and trends in defect data and translate findings into actionable quality improvements.
- Strong experience troubleshooting complex technical failures and determining root causes across application and test infrastructure.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate technical perspectives and constructively challenge decisions in technical forums.
- Demonstrated ability to translate business requirements into effective technical and quality solutions.
- Established leadership and thought leadership within the quality engineering domain, even in an individual contributor capacity.
- Strong problem-solving skills, engineering mindset, patience, composure, and the ability to remain effective in complex technical environments.
- Genuine interest in emerging technologies, artificial intelligence, and innovative approaches to software testing.
- Experience mentoring, coaching, or serving as a technical role model for engineers is highly desirable.
- Practical experience with Agile methodologies such as Scrum and Kanban is a plus.
- Knowledge of DevOps practices and containerization technologies such as Docker is advantageous.
- Hands-on experience with cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure is desirable.
- Experience with K6 for load testing is a plus.
- Experience with enterprise CI/CD platforms such as Jenkins or Harness is advantageous.
- Hands-on experience with JMeter for performance and load testing is considered a plus.
- Remote work: Fully remote opportunity, allowing you to work from Brazil.
- Technical leadership: Opportunity to influence quality engineering strategy, automation architecture, tooling, and engineering standards at scale.
- Professional growth: Work alongside experienced engineering professionals and contribute to long-term technology and quality initiatives.
- Mentorship opportunities: Ability to coach and mentor engineers while strengthening your own technical leadership and thought leadership.
- Modern technology environment: Exposure to Playwright, JavaScript/TypeScript, CI/CD, cloud platforms, Docker, performance testing, and emerging AI-enabled testing practices.
- Global collaboration: Work with distributed, multicultural teams and collaborate across borders and disciplines.
- Innovation: Opportunity to evaluate and introduce new technologies and innovative testing methodologies.
- Engineering culture: Environment built around collaboration, accountability, continuous improvement, inclusion, and technical excellence.
