Responsible for planning and coordinating Quality, Environmental, Health and Safety (QEHS) activities with respect to GDIT compliance with Federal, State and Local regulations for the Navy Marine Corp (NMC) Sector. Maintain GDIT Corporate certifications for ISO 9001, 14001 and 45001 at the following locations; Chesapeake VA, California, MD, and Pawcatuck CT.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
We are looking for an experienced quality / safety director to join our company. In this role, you'll be responsible for creating and overseeing quality, health and safety protocols for the Navy and Marine Corps sector, primarily bi-coastal waterfront operations in support of the United States Navy and Marine Corps and ensuring that staff members are properly informed regarding emergency preparedness, use of protective equipment, and accident protocol.
To drive operational success, the Director will champion company health and safety initiatives while ensuring strict compliance with OSHA 29 CFR 1910/1915 standards as well as environmental requirements with hazardous materials/waste, air permitting, and other environmental concerns relating to maritime support. The ideal candidate should excel at rapidly identifying workplace hazards and executing proactive solutions to minimize health risks and prevent incidents.

The likely salary range for this position is $149,469 - $201,250. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.

QUALITY / SAFETY DIRECTOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Developing and implementing workplace safety policies and procedures in accordance with OSHA standards.
- Providing personnel with safety-related information such as training sessions, emergency protocols, and proper use of safety equipment.
- Reviewing existing policies and procedures to ensure they are current for both internal practices and regulatory requirements.
- Overseeing the sector's daily quality, environmental and safety operations and identifying opportunities for improvement of safety regulations.
- Performing audits and inspections of work areas and jobsites to identify possible quality and safety issues (Shipboard and Facilities).
- Oversee site personnel physically inspecting all work areas and jobsites to identify possible quality and safety issues.
- Conducting risk assessments to minimize workplace accidents, occupational illnesses or long-term health hazards.
- Preparing quarterly quality and safety reports and presenting the information to sector management and company level quality and safety team.
- Collaborating with management to plan and implement a safety protocol budget.
- Maintain the Quality Management System (QMS) ISO 9001:2015, and demonstrate expertise in Quality Assurance, NAVSEA Standard Items and QA requirements beyond 009-004, including 9090-310 and related directives. Experience developing and implementing Quality Plans, conducting QA audits, maintaining QMS documentation, and training personnel in QA best practices for shipboard modernization and repair.
- Manage a cross-functional QEHS organization that includes functional team leaders and subject matter experts across Safety and Environmental (EHS), Quality Assurance (QA), and the Quality Management System (QMS). Responsibilities include ensuring the organization is properly staffed, structured, and resourced to support sector-wide operational needs; providing leadership direction; developing personnel capabilities; and driving efficiency and coordinated execution of safety, quality, and compliance initiatives.
QEHS/QUALITY / SAFETY DIRECTOR REQUIREMENTS:
Proven Management experience dealing with complex work environment
- At least 15 years' experience as a Quality or Safety Manager in a complex safety environment.
- BS degree
- Thorough understanding of shipboard safety and quality standards associated with shipboard modernization.
- Experience developing and implementing Quality Plans and Surveillance Plans and Schedules
- Excellent knowledge of OSHA standards and federal safety legislation.
- Solid knowledge of potentially hazardous materials or practices in the workplace.
- Experience developing and leading Corrective Action, Continuous Improvement programs
- Familiarity with writing health and safety policies and procedures.
- Proficiency in conducting data analysis and reporting statistics.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills as well as excellent management and leadership skills.
