Overview

Lactation Consultant (IBCLC)

Help families thrive from the very beginning.

At Vista Community Clinic (VCC), we believe healthcare is about more than medicine—it’s about hope, connection, and making a lasting difference in the lives of the families we serve.

For more than 50 years, VCC has been a trusted leader in community healthcare. What began as a small, volunteer-driven effort in Vista has grown into a nationally recognized network of 14 state-of-the-art clinics serving more than 70,000 patients each year across San Diego, Orange, Los Angeles, and Riverside counties.

We’re looking for a passionate, compassionate, and knowledgeable Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) to join our team and help parents feel confident, supported, and empowered during one of the most important transitions of their lives.

As a Lactation Consultant at VCC, you’ll have the opportunity to make a meaningful difference by providing evidence-based lactation care to pregnant and postpartum patients and their infants. You’ll work alongside an interdisciplinary team to help families meet their infant-feeding goals—whether that means overcoming breastfeeding challenges, establishing feeding routines, accessing a breast pump, or connecting with additional resources and support.

Why Join VCC?

At VCC, your expertise matters and your work has a direct impact on the community.

  • 🏅 2026 HRSA Gold Medal for Outstanding Care — placing VCC among the top 10% of Federally Qualified Health Centers in the United States.
  • 🌟 Recognized by HRSA as a National Quality Leader in Behavioral Health and Diabetes, with additional recognition for excellence in Preventive Health and Health IT.
  • 💙 Make a difference in the lives of parents, newborns, and families who need compassionate, accessible care.
  • 🤝 Collaborate with clinicians, health educators, social workers, and other members of a multidisciplinary care team.
  • 📚 Grow your expertise through a strong culture of training, professional development, education, and career advancement.
  • 🌎 Serve a diverse community and help reduce barriers to quality maternal and infant healthcare.
  • 🏠Provide care both in person and through telehealth, as operationally needed.
  • ❤️ Join a workplace grounded in respect, collaboration, inclusion, and passion for patient care.

Responsibilities

What You’ll Do

As a Lactation Consultant, you will provide individualized, evidence-based support to pregnant and postpartum patients and their infants.

Your work will include:

  • Conduct comprehensive lactation assessments for prenatal and postpartum patients in accordance with CPSP protocols.
  • Develop individualized infant-feeding plans based on the needs, goals, and circumstances of each patient and infant.
  • Assess latch, positioning, feeding effectiveness, milk transfer, and maternal breastfeeding concerns.
  • Help new parents prevent, understand, and overcome breastfeeding and infant-feeding challenges with practical, compassionate guidance.
  • Educate and counsel patients about breastfeeding, lactation, and infant feeding while supporting their personal feeding goals.
  • Identify maternal or infant concerns that may require evaluation or referral to a medical provider.
  • Coordinate breast pump orders with designated DME vendors, obtain required documentation, track orders, and help ensure patients receive equipment promptly.
  • Connect families with community resources, breastfeeding support groups, and other services when appropriate.
  • Collaborate closely with prenatal care staff, clinicians, health educators, social workers, and other members of the care team.
  • Participate in community outreach, breastfeeding promotion, and health education events.
  • Provide services in person and via telehealth as needed.
  • Maintain timely, accurate, and thorough clinical documentation and meet established productivity standards.
  • Follow up with patients, including outreach and rescheduling when appointments are missed.
  • Stay current in lactation practice through continuing education, professional literature, workshops, in-services, and other learning opportunities.
  • Support VCC’s mission, vision, values, and commitment to patient-centered care.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Be Part of a Patient-Centered Team

At VCC, lactation care is an important part of whole-person, family-centered healthcare.

You’ll work as part of a collaborative team to:

  • Help parents build confidence, self-efficacy, and sustainable feeding practices.
  • Communicate effectively across the continuum of care, including with health plans, specialists, hospitals, and community partners.
