This role offers the opportunity to lead complex Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) and utility technology initiatives from planning through implementation. You’ll manage projects for electric, gas, and water utilities, coordinating diverse teams, vendors, and technical workstreams. Your work will span areas such as feasibility, business cases, procurement, deployment, systems integration, testing, and operational readiness. You’ll serve as a trusted project leader, balancing scope, schedule, budget, resources, risks, and client expectations. The role combines strategic oversight with hands-on project execution and regular interaction with executives and technical stakeholders. - Lead AMI projects: Manage day-to-day delivery of complex AMI and related utility technology initiatives from project initiation through implementation and transition to operations.
- Own project planning: Develop and maintain integrated project plans covering schedules, budgets, milestones, dependencies, resources, deliverables, and critical activities.
- Coordinate cross-functional teams: Align utility business, IT and OT teams, technical specialists, AMI vendors, system integrators, field contractors, and other third parties.
- Manage risks and issues: Identify emerging challenges, track risks, issues, decisions, actions, assumptions, and changes, and drive timely resolution or escalation.
- Facilitate communication: Lead project meetings, executive briefings, workshops, and cross-functional working sessions, ensuring stakeholders remain aligned on priorities and decisions.
- Oversee vendors: Monitor vendor performance and contractual commitments, including milestones, deliverables, dependencies, acceptance activities, and implementation progress.
- Coordinate AMI workstreams: Support alignment across meter and network deployment, systems integration, testing, data readiness, operational readiness, change management, and customer-facing activities.
- Deliver executive reporting: Provide concise, decision-oriented updates covering project status, schedule, budget, risks, issues, dependencies, and upcoming decisions.
- Maintain project governance: Ensure effective documentation, project controls, and governance practices while developing trusted client relationships and identifying opportunities to create additional value.
- Manage resources and financials: Forecast project resource requirements, maintain resource bookings, monitor financial performance, and support accurate monthly invoicing and revenue forecasting.
- Professional experience: 5+ years of project or program management experience within the utility industry, with demonstrated experience supporting or managing AMI implementations for electric, gas, or water utilities.
- AMI expertise: Working knowledge of key AMI components, including meters and endpoints, communications networks, head-end systems, meter data management systems, systems integration, testing, deployment, data management, and operational readiness.
- Project management: Proven ability to manage complex schedules, budgets, risks, issues, dependencies, changes, resources, deliverables, and executive reporting.
- Technology implementation: Experience coordinating complex, cross-functional technology programs involving utility business teams, IT and/or OT organizations, vendors, system integrators, and field resources.
- Communication and facilitation: Strong interpersonal and presentation skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with executives, technical specialists, business stakeholders, vendors, and field personnel.
- Problem solving: Ability to identify project challenges, develop practical courses of action, facilitate decisions, and drive issues through resolution.
- Adaptability: Comfortable working independently in environments where information may be incomplete, priorities can evolve, and projects involve multiple stakeholders.
- Collaboration: Effective in hybrid, virtual, and in-person environments with geographically distributed teams.
- Technical proficiency: Proficiency with project management tools and Microsoft Office applications; experience with Microsoft Project or comparable scheduling software is a plus.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and relevant professional experience.
- Certifications: PMP or a comparable project management certification is preferred.
- Work authorization: Candidates must be authorized to work for any employer in the United States or Canada. Employment visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
- Compensation: $140,000–$170,000 USD per year, plus an annual bonus; actual compensation may vary based on experience.
- Remote work: Remote position when not traveling to client sites.
