Data and Applications Analyst in Tacoma, Washington at Tacoma Housing

As the Data and Applications Analyst, you’ll serve as THA's primary business intelligence and data analytics professional, helping ensure staff across the organization have reliable, meaningful information to support operations, compliance, planning, and decision-making. This role serves as a key steward of enterprise data systems, with a strong focus on Power BI, Microsoft Fabric, Yardi Data Connect, and Yardi Voyager administration.

The successful Data and Applications Analyst candidate will bring advanced Power BI expertise, strong communication and relationship-building skills, and a passion for technology and continuous learning. What You’ll Do:

• Understand and work with multiple data sources, with particular emphasis on Power BI based system Yardi Data Connect, to develop reliable, integrated, and unified datasets, reports, and visualizations, that support THA operations, reporting, analysis, and strategic decision-making.
• Design, develop, and maintain reporting data, data models, and supporting processes to ensure staff have consistent, accurate, and useful information for operational and strategic needs.
• Create, test, implement, and maintain data processes supporting Power BI and Yardi reporting; ensure data quality, refresh reliability, performance, and appropriate handling of large data volumes.
• Work closely with SMEs and process owners to develop Power BI reports, visualizations, dashboards, semantic models, and supporting data solutions.
• Support the design, implementation, testing, documentation, and ongoing maintenance of Data Warehouses and Lakehouses in Microsoft Fabric as needed.
• Implement appropriate security, workspace, access, and governance practices in Power BI, Microsoft Fabric, and other data systems.
• Support data documentation, data dictionaries, lineage, and governance practices using Microsoft Purview and other tools to improve data transparency and help staff understand, interpret, and use information consistently.
• Support Yardi Data Connect development and maintenance, including data extraction, validation, transformation, and availability for reporting through Power BI and other platforms.
• Design, develop, and maintain Power BI semantic models and ingest data from Yardi Data Connect and other data sources for reporting and analytics.
• Develop and maintain data processes using Fabric and Power BI architectures to ingest, clean, transform, and standardize data from multiple sources into reliable reporting models.
• Ensure proper source control, documentation, testing, deployment, refresh monitoring, and quality assurance processes are followed to maintain accurate and reliable Power BI and data solutions.
• Participate in developing, specifying, and communicating reporting, analytics, and data management practices and the infrastructure components required to support them.
• Partner with IT operations and application administrators to troubleshoot and optimize data and reporting performance, including Power BI refreshes, queries, data connections, and supporting databases.
• Provide thought leadership in Power BI, business intelligence, data governance, data modeling, analytics, reporting, Yardi data, and appropriate use of Microsoft Fabric.
• Provide end-user training and support as needed for Power BI reports, dashboards, data interpretation, and the effective and efficient use of Power BI and Microsoft Fabric tools and resources.
• Partner with business users, Yardi administrators, vendors, and IT staff to identify reporting requirements, resolve data issues, and support system changes and upgrades.
• Provide additional administration and operational support for Yardi user access, configuration, reporting, data connections, and issue resolution within assigned responsibilities.

Who You Are:

Required:

• Have a Bachelor's degree in a computer-related field (or an equivalent combination of directly related education and experience).
• Have 5 years’ experience in business intelligence, Power BI development, data analysis, data modeling, reporting, data integration, or closely related work.
• Experience with data warehousing, data modeling, ETL processes, and variants of Microsoft Fabric.
• Advanced Power BI development skills, including: Power Query, DAX, semantic models, report and dashboard development, security and deployment, and performance optimization.
• Experience working with SQL/T-SQL, Power Query/M, and data transformation techniques.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including ability to listen actively, ask insightful questions, and collaborate effectively.
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, work independently, and deliver high-quality results.

Preferred:

• Experience with Microsoft Fabric Data Pipelines, Dataflows, Lakehouse, and Warehouse components.
• Experience with Yardi Voyager, Yardi Data Connect, or other Yardi products.
• Experience working with housing authority, affordable housing, or public housing data.
• Microsoft Power BI certification, such as Microsoft Certified: Power BI Data Analyst Associate.
• Microsoft Fabric or other Microsoft data and analytics certifications.
• Python experience.
