You will also build trusted client relationships by providing proactive support and responding to tax filing, payment, and notice-related questions. The role offers opportunities to use automation and data-processing technologies to improve operational efficiency and accuracy. You will also contribute to team development by mentoring junior colleagues and participating in process improvement initiatives.

Accountabilities:
  • Prepare 700+ sales and use tax returns per month for level 2–3 clients, applying in-depth compliance knowledge and independent judgment to resolve complex reporting issues accurately and within required deadlines.
  • Independently implement new clients, entities, and data files, supporting smooth onboarding and transitions while reviewing tax data for accuracy, investigating discrepancies, and taking corrective action when needed.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships through regular communication, proactive support, and timely responses to inquiries related to online filings, payments, tax authority notices, and compliance requirements.
  • Format and import monthly tax data into indirect tax returns software, while preparing and maintaining accurate monthly tax compliance reports and supporting documentation.
  • Use automation and data-processing technologies, including Robotic Process Automation (RPA) and Alteryx, to improve workflow efficiency, data quality, and operational accuracy.
  • Serve as a trainer and mentor to approximately 1–3 junior team members, providing guidance, coaching, and support during work transitions and day-to-day tax processing activities.
  • Participate in approximately 1–3 special project teams, contributing to process improvements, operational initiatives, and broader business objectives.
  • Adjust working hours during peak monthly processing periods, typically between the 5th and 20th of each month, to support business and client deadlines.
Requirements:
  • 5–8 years of relevant professional experience in tax processing, accounting, or a related business discipline.
  • In-depth knowledge of sales and use tax compliance regulations, with specialization in one or more compliance areas relevant to level 2–3 client accounts.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, with demonstrated ability to manage high-volume, deadline-driven workloads independently while maintaining a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, combined with a customer-focused approach and the ability to establish productive relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor, coach, and effectively transition work to junior team members.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with the professional judgment required to identify, investigate, and resolve complex tax reporting issues independently.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of relevant education and professional experience.
  • Experience with indirect tax returns software is preferred, particularly experience with VITR.
  • Exposure to RPA tools and/or Alteryx for data processing, automation, and workflow optimization is preferred.
  • Completion of an IPT Business Tax Basics course or equivalent professional development in indirect tax compliance is preferred.
  • Experience participating in cross-functional process improvement initiatives, special project teams, or similar business improvement activities is an advantage.
Benefits:
  • Base salary range of $65,400–$85,100 per year.
  • Eligibility for a bonus plan, depending on role-specific compensation structure.
  • Potential eligibility for additional sales commissions/bonus opportunities and/or equity grants, where applicable.
  • Full-time remote work arrangement within the United States.
  • Opportunity to work on complex indirect tax compliance activities serving level 2–3 clients.
  • Opportunities to develop expertise in tax technology, automation, data processing, and process improvement.
