Job Description

Description:

Director of Tax

Location: Salt Lake City, UT

Department: Tax Solutions

Salary Range: $150,000–$175,000

Classification: Exempt

Reports To: VP of Tax

Status: Full-Time

About the Role:

The Director of Tax sets and protects the technical standard of PRIME’s tax practice. This role is accountable for the quality of every tax return PRIME delivers, the soundness of the tax strategies our strategists recommend, and the professional growth of the tax team.

This is a senior technical leader: a credentialed tax professional who reviews and improves the work, builds the standards and training behind it, and develops the people who do it as the practice grows from hundreds to thousands of clients.

What You'll Do:

  • Tax Return Quality
    • Own the review standards, checklists and sign-off process for client returns; review complex and high-risk returns; track error and rework rates and fix their root causes.
  • Tax Strategy Quality
    • Set the approved library of tax strategies and the technical standards for each; review strategies and tax plans for accuracy, documentation and compliance; serve as the escalation point for difficult technical questions.
  • Tax Law & Technical Updates
    • Monitor federal and state tax law changes, update strategies, templates and guidance, and brief the team on what changes for clients.
  • Professional Development
    • Build the training program, technical curriculum and CPE plan for the tax team; coach strategists and preparers; define the skills and credentials needed to move between levels.
  • Team Leadership
    • Lead the Tax Admins, Senior Tax Admin and Onboarding Strategists; hire, coach and evaluate the team.
  • Compliance & Risk
    • Ensure the practice meets professional standards (including Circular 230) and IRS and state preparer, consent and data-security requirements.
