Job Description
About Amber
Amber is an entirely new way of thinking about buying, banking and selling energy – where home energy technology works to put money back in customers' pockets and accelerate the renewable energy transition. Everything we build is about making that possible and putting traditional retailers in the shade.
We believe the cheapest, fastest and most rewarding way to reach 100% renewables is to automate the growing wave of home batteries and EVs. Customers get direct access to the real-time wholesale electricity price and the technology to shift their energy use to the times when cheaper renewables are available.
We're backed by Australia's leading VCs (Square Peg Capital, Main Sequence Ventures, Rubio Impact Ventures, Breakthrough Victoria), impact-focused investors, and most recently Commonwealth Bank, NRMA, Gentrack and ETF Partners (UK/Europe). We're a team of over 160 across energy, technology, marketing and operations.
And now we're doing it in the UK. We license our platform to large energy retailers so they can offer this to their own customers, and our first partner is one of the UK's largest energy retailers. This role sits inside that partnership. We'll tell you exactly who they are on our first call – we're just not naming them in a public ad.
About the role
Amber’s performance marketing unlock in Australia is the two-person performance team: one performance marketer and one multidisciplinary creative who ideate, ship and test together, in-house, at high velocity. Static, video, live, animated, hi-fi, low-fi – whatever the test needs. We've built proprietary AI-assisted production processes that take £10k shoots down to about £200.It's fast, and it consistently beats traditionally produced creative on ROAS.
Now we’re doing the same in the UK to support our scaling business, and you are the creative half of it. You'll work day to day with the performance marketing team at our UK partners, with the reach and media budget of a major UK energy retailer and the cycle time of a startup. Your performance partner runs the analysis; you translate it into ever improving creative work.
You make the ads. While we do have creative resources available for specific formats, you won't typically be briefing ideas out to a studio and nobody reports to you so there’s no management overhead. This is a senior role because of the creative taste and execution experience it needs.
What you'll do
Make the work
- Conceive, make and iterate static and video ads for Meta and Google at pace – around 8-12 net-new concepts a month and 30–50 total assets including iterations
- Own each piece end to end: concept, script, production, edit, delivery
- Use our AI-assisted production workflows alongside traditional production – and push them further than we have
Turn performance into the next round
- Read the numbers (hook rate, hold rate, CTR, CPA, ROAS etc.) and turn them into the next creative hypotheses
- Run a live creative testing roadmap: what's shipping? What's measuring? What's next?
- Sweep Meta Ad Library and the wider market for angles and formats worth stealing
Work inside the partnership
- Create a productive and efficient working relationship with our partner's performance marketing team
- Align with our partner's brand and regulatory process without letting it set your pace
- Challenge weak briefs and win the argument with evidence rather than opinion
- Learn the brand, product, the UK energy market and regulatory environment properly, so the ads are accurate and compelling
- Partner with the creative team in Australia - we share processes, workflows and results to make each other better. You're the second node in our growing creative studio.
What success looks like
- 30 days: first tests are live, you know the product and the approval path
- 60 days: you're running the testing roadmap, and the AI workflow is in your hands
- 90 days: creative is no longer the constraint on our partner's paid spend
What We're Looking For
Experience & Skills- A portfolio of ads you conceived and made, with what each one did. For calibration, people who thrive here have usually shipped for 5+ years and made hundreds of ads, not dozens
- Hands-on across both video and static – you don't need every discipline, but you need more than one. Some mix of shoot, edit, motion and design
- Fluent with AI video and image generation, and genuinely interested in where those tools are going
- Self-sufficient production – idea to live asset with or without a production team behind you
- Data-literate – you can open Ads Manager, pull a creative report and form a view. You don't need to be the analyst but you need to be curious
- Based in the UK and able to work hybrid or from a London office
- Taste – this is the thing we're hiring for. A sharp instinct for what stops a thumb, and the judgement to know which of your ideas is the good one before the data tells you. When AI has made production close to free, taste is our superpower
- Shipped over polished – you know the difference between good enough to test and good enough to be proud of
- Performance over opinion – we back the numbers over anyone's view, including our own
- Velocity as a system, not a sprint – you build templates, modular assets and workflows so that we can keep executing smarter and faster
- Comfortable with ambiguity – we’re testing a new structure in a new market. You’ll be helping to shape the future of creative production at Amber.
- You've worked embedded in a client or partner organisation, not only agency-side
- You've made work in a regulated category and stayed fast anyway
- You've adapted creative across markets or audiences
- You publish or post your own work somewhere and have a point of view about the craft
- Prefer making things over writing briefs
- Enjoy ideating and testing new concepts
- Are performance obsessed and care about impact
- Want to push the craft using the latest tools, techniques and technology
- Competitive salary of £55-70k and share options in Amber
- Hybrid and flexible working
- Pension
- Enhanced gender-neutral parental leave
- Annual learning and development budget
- An external Employee Assistance Plan for mental health support
- A rapidly growing global team of 230+ across energy, technology, marketing and operations, and international licensing
Even if you don't meet 100% of the above, we still encourage you to apply. We're open to all backgrounds and encourage people from underrepresented groups to apply. We never discriminate on the basis of race, religion, colour, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, or disability status.
Our hiring process- An initial screening call with our Talent team
- A conversation with me (Laurence, hiring manager)
- A paid work sample – a real brief with real performance data, 24 hours to turn around a response. We pay for your time to do this
- A creative critique session – we'll review your ads together in the same way that our team does every day to test how you’d approach what you'd test next
- A final conversation with a member of our leadership team
We'll be respectful of your time while trying to be thorough in finding the right fit.
No recruitment agencies please. We've got this! Thank you.
