Job Description

About Sims HD Heavy Moving Solutions

Who We Are SimsHD is a Tampa, Florida-based heavy hauling, rigging, and construction hoist company. We share a family legacy and a name with Sims Crane & Equipment, but SimsHD is a separate business — our own team, our own equipment, and our own focus: transporting, lifting, and placing the heavy, high-value equipment that keeps Florida’s industries moving. From hauling oversized industrial machinery across the state to rigging a delicate piece of equipment into a tight space, our crews specialize in the jobs that demand precision as much as horsepower. Operating out of our Tampa headquarters, SimsHD works on projects throughout Florida — and we’re growing.

A Message from Erika Sims, CEO “I grew up around cranes, but I built SimsHD around people. We started this company because our customers needed a partner who could handle the transportation and rigging side of a project with the same level of care we put into the lift itself. Today, SimsHD is a small, close-knit team taking on big, complicated work across Florida — and I’m proud of every person who wears our name on a jobsite. If you’re looking for a place where your work is seen, your voice matters, and doing the job right is non-negotiable, I hope you’ll consider joining us.” — Erika Sims, Chief Executive Officer, SimsHD

The SimsHD Operating Tenets Every job we take on, and everyone we hire, is measured against six tenets that guide how we work:

1. If it isn’t safe, it isn’t successful. No job is worth an injury — safety comes before schedule, every time.

2. We do the job right the first time. Preparation and precision are how we protect our customers’ equipment and our reputation.

3. Everyone owns the result. From the driver to the rigger to the project lead, every person on a SimsHD job is responsible for the outcome.

4. Experience matters — we learn from each other. Our best training comes from crew members who’ve been doing this for years, teaching the ones just getting started.

5. Our name goes on every job. We treat every project like our name is on the invoice, because it is.

6. Strong results come from strong people. We invest in our team because the quality of our work starts with the quality of our people.

Welder / Fabricator – Structural & Heavy Equipment | MIG, Stick, Flux-Core, Oxi-fuel & Plasma | Tampa, FL

Welder / Fabricator – Tampa FL | Starting at $32/hour + OT | Shop & Field Work

Lay down welds that move the heaviest loads in Florida.

Sims HD is Florida's leader in Heavy Duty Moving Solutions, and we're growing fast. We move, lift and set the heaviest equipment out there: transformers, turbines, presses, vessels and structural steel for hospitals, manufacturing plants, aerospace facilities, energy sites and major construction projects.

Every one of those moves depends on the spreader bars, lifting lugs, skids and trailers that our welders build and maintain. As we take on more and bigger jobs, we need skilled Welders and Fabricators who take pride in their work and want a company they can grow with.

If you can run a clean bead, read a print and solve problems in the field, there's no limit to where you can go here.

What you'll do

  • Fabricate and repair rigging and heavy-moving equipment, including spreader bars, lifting lugs, skids, cribbing frames, jacking and gantry components
  • Repair and modify trailers, trucks, forklifts and heavy equipment
  • Weld in the field at customer job sites, including load attachments, sea-fastening, temporary supports and equipment anchoring
  • Weld carbon steel in all positions using SMAW (stick), GMAW (MIG) and FCAW (flux-core), plus GTAW (TIG) on stainless and aluminum as needed
  • Cut, fit and prep material with oxy-fuel, plasma, carbon arc gouging, grinders and saws
  • Read blueprints, shop drawings and weld symbols, and weld to AWS D1.1 and company procedures
  • Inspect your own welds and make repairs before work is released
  • Set up hot work permits, fire watch and ventilation on job sites
  • Maintain welders, torches, generators and shop tools

What you bring

  • 2+ years of structural, heavy-equipment or industrial welding and fabrication experience
  • Able to pass a weld test in the 3G and 4G positions (AWS D1.1 or equivalent)
  • Skilled in stick, MIG and flux-core welding, plus oxy-fuel and plasma cutting
  • Able to read blueprints, shop drawings and weld symbols
  • Valid driver's license and a clean driving record
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Able to pass a background check and drug screen

Bonus points for

  • AWS Certified Welder in one or more processes
  • Pipe welding experience (6G)
  • Trailer, crane or heavy equipment repair experience
  • Class A CDL
  • Forklift, aerial lift certifications
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30

What you get

  • Starting at $32 per hour based on experience and certifications, plus overtime
  • Health, dental and vision insurance
  • 401(k)
  • Paid time off
  • Paid training and certifications. We'll help you add processes, positions and AWS certs.
  • Variety every day. Shop fabrication one day and field welding on a major industrial project the next.
  • Real growth. As we expand, top welders will move into lead fabricator, foreman and shop leadership roles.
