Job Description

Description:

As the Psychosocial Coordinator, you play a vital role in helping campers and families feel seen, supported, and prepared for camp. Through compassionate communication, trauma-informed practices, and strong relationships, you help create an environment where every camper experiences belonging, connection, and joy. You partner closely with families, volunteers, and staff to understand each camper's unique strengths, needs, and goals, helping ensure they can fully participate in the camp experience.

You bring strong attention to detail and a commitment to individualized support throughout the camper journey. Before, during, and after camp, you help assess mental health, behavioral, emotional, and developmental needs, coordinating adaptations and support plans that promote success. You collaborate across departments to help create a safe, inclusive, and emotionally supportive environment. Grounded in the value of Camper First, you thoughtfully balance the needs of individual campers with the well-being of the cabin group and broader camp community, helping create experiences where all campers can thrive. You respond thoughtfully to challenges, using sound judgment and a strengths-based approach to support both individual success and community belonging.

You take pride in the details that help make camp possible. Through careful preparation, thoughtful coordination, and a deep understanding of each camper's individual needs, you help ensure campers arrive ready to succeed. Whether developing individualized support plans, preparing volunteers and staff, or helping campers navigate challenges during camp, your work helps create the conditions for confidence, independence, friendship, and joy. Your dedication helps ensure every camper has the opportunity to fully participate in the life-changing experience of Flying Horse Farms.

Flying Horse Farms (FHF) makes it possible for kids with serious illnesses to heal, grow, and thrive – at no cost to families. Located on 200 acres in Mt. Gilead, Ohio, camp first opened its gates in 2010 and hosts ~1,000 children and families each year

FHF is the first camp in the Midwest to become a full member of the SeriousFun Children’s Network. Founded in 1988 by actor, philanthropist and Ohio native Paul Newman, the Network is a community of independently managed and financed camps and programs creating opportunities for children with serious illnesses and their families.

At FHF, for a weekend or week at a time, kids focus on the joy and freedom of simply being a kid, and with safety being the number one priority, fun is a close second. Campers receive high-quality care at our on-site health center, staffed 24/7 by clinicians from children’s hospitals across Ohio and beyond.

Flying Horse Farms is an ACA-Accredited Camp with the American Camp Association.
