Overview:

As a Junior Database Administrator, you will support the reliability, performance, and security of our database environments, with a primary focus on MySQL & MSSql. This role is essential for ensuring data availability, integrity, and efficient operations across development, test, and production systems. You will work closely with development, operations, and infrastructure teams to support database provisioning, monitoring, maintenance, and incident response.

Qualifications & Skills:

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering.
• Relevant certifications are a plus (e.g., Oracle MySQL Database Administrator, IBM Certified Database Associate, MySQL Database Administrator).
• At least 1 year of experience in database administration, database support, or a related IT operations role.
• Hands-on experience with MySQL administration (installation, configuration, user management, backups, and restores).
• Familiarity with SQL and relational database concepts (indexing, normalization, transactions, locking).
• Knowledge of cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP).
• Scripting and programming skills (e.g., Python, Bash, PowerShell).
• Hands-on experience to manage RDS and SQL/MYSQL Instances.
• Familiarity with NoSQL databases (e.g., MongoDB, Redis, DynamoDB) is a plus.
• Familiarity with monitoring and logging tools.
• knowledge of networking, security practices, and server administration.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex issues.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills.

Junior DBA - Key Responsibilities

• MySQL Database Administration and Support.
• Assist in the installation, configuration, and day-to-day administration of MySQL instances (self-managed and managed services such as AWS RDS). Support routine tasks including user and privilege management, schema changes, backups, and recovery procedures.
• Support the setup and maintenance of database environments across Dev, Staging, and Production. Help ensure configuration consistency, version control of database changes, and reliable promotion of schema and data between environments.
• Monitor database health, performance metrics, and resource utilization. Assist in identifying slow queries, reviewing execution plans, and implementing basic tuning recommendations under senior DBA guidance.
• Participate in backup scheduling, validation, and restore testing. Support replication, failover, and basic high-availability configurations to maintain service continuity.
• Assist with database security practices including access control, encryption, auditing, and compliance with organizational policies. Support patching and version upgrades in coordination with security and infrastructure teams.
• Develop and maintain basic automation scripts (Python, Bash, or SQL) to streamline operational tasks such as backups, monitoring checks, reporting, and routine maintenance.
• Support managed database services (e.g., AWS RDS for MySQL) including provisioning, monitoring, scaling, and operational maintenance. Collaborate with cloud and infrastructure teams on networking, security groups, and connectivity.
• Use centralized monitoring and logging tools (e.g., PMM, Prometheus, Grafana, CloudWatch, etc) to track database health and respond to actionable alerts.
• Participate in collaborative problem-solving and provide initial triage for database-related incidents, including connectivity issues, performance degradation, replication lag, and failed jobs or backups.
• Work with Software Development, DevOps, and Operations teams to support application database needs, troubleshoot environment issues, and ensure smooth database operations throughout the software development lifecycle.
• Maintain accurate documentation of database configurations, runbooks, and procedures. Proactively build expertise in MySQL, database administration best practices, and emerging database technologies.
