Job Description

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced, hands-on DevOps Manager to lead a three-person team supporting our Azure environment. This role combines people leadership, cloud engineering, automation, governance, security partnership, and incident management. The manager will work closely with Application Development, Information Security, IT Infrastructure (ITI), Networking, NSOC, and the Service Desk to improve reliability, reduce avoidable developer escalations, and mature enterprise DevOps practices.

Responsibilities:

Leadership, Operations & Collaboration

  • Lead, coach, schedule, and develop three DevOps employees; manage priorities, performance expectations, resource allocation, and vacations.
  • Run daily standups and weekly coordination meetings with ITI and Service Desk; communicate effectively with developers, technical leaders, support teams, and business stakeholders.
  • Serve as the first escalation point for On-Call support; lead production incident response, root cause analysis, post-incident reviews, and permanent corrective actions.
  • Partner with Service Desk L2 and NSOC to improve triage, diagnostics, prioritization, runbooks, escalation paths, and automation so fewer incidents require developer involvement.

Azure Architecture, Reliability & Optimization

  • Design and support secure, reliable, scalable, and cost-effective Azure solutions across compute, networking, identity, storage, data, integration, monitoring, security, containers, and platform services.
  • Right-size and fine-tune Azure services for performance, availability, capacity, cost, autoscaling, scale-out, and scale-in.
  • Implement resilient architectures using Availability Zones, zone redundancy, multi-region patterns, disaster recovery, and business continuity practices.
  • Proactively identify code, deployment, configuration, capacity, and platform issues before they create business impact.

DevOps, GitHub, Azure DevOps & Automation

  • Build and improve CI/CD workflows using GitHub, GitHub Actions, and Azure DevOps (ADO), which remains in active use; support branching, source control, release, and SDLC practices.
  • Advance Infrastructure as Code and operational automation using OpenTofu, Terraform, PowerShell, and Bash.
  • Streamline provisioning, configuration, deployment, change, recovery, support, and compliance processes.
  • Use AI-assisted engineering tools, including Claude or comparable platforms, responsibly for analysis, automation, documentation, and problem resolution.

Policy, Process, Procedure & Standardization

  • Determine requirements for new and existing operational and engineering policies, processes, procedures, standards, and controls based on business, technical, security, and support needs.
  • Develop and maintain Policy, Process, and Procedure documents for Application Development and other company teams, including NSOC.
  • Define ownership, controls, handoffs, decision points, escalation paths, measures, and architecture patterns; drive adoption and continuous improvement.

Security, Monitoring & Dashboards

  • Work with Information Security to embed DevSecOps requirements, remediate vulnerabilities, support audits, and strengthen operational controls.
  • Review alerts, logs, telemetry, access patterns, and employee activity to identify recurring problems, security risks, policy violations, misuse, or potentially rogue user behavior.
  • Improve alert quality and build actionable dashboards covering platform health, application performance, incidents, deployments, capacity, cost, security, and service-level trends.

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years as a DevOps Manager or in a comparable hands-on technical leadership role, including employee supervision and operational accountability.
  • Deep knowledge of Microsoft Azure architecture, services, operations, monitoring, networking, security, scalability, resilience, cost optimization, zone redundancy, and multi-region design.
  • Strong experience with GitHub, GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps (ADO), CI/CD, source control, branching strategies, and SDLC practices.
  • Hands-on experience with OpenTofu, Terraform, PowerShell, and Bash.
  • Experience with observability, dashboards, alerting, incident management, on-call escalation, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis.
  • Ability to gather requirements and author clear Policy, Process, and Procedure documents for technical and operational teams.
  • Excellent written, verbal, facilitation, and cross-functional communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • AWS or multi-cloud experience.
  • Experience with Claude, GitHub Copilot, or other AI-assisted engineering tools.
  • Experience with DevSecOps, policy-as-code, security analytics, or threat detection.
  • Experience with Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, Application Insights, Microsoft Defender for Cloud, or similar platforms.
  • Relevant Azure, GitHub, HashiCorp, OpenTofu, security, or cloud architecture certifications.
