Description:

This position is part of the company's shared finance function and provides bookkeeping and accounting support across the organization's U.S., Canadian, and Malaysian entities. While based in Malaysia, this role primarily supports the U.S. accounting function and works closely with the U.S. Accountant to ensure timely and accurate financial operations.

  • Maintain accurate day-to-day bookkeeping records, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger entries
  • Perform monthly bank and credit card reconciliations
  • Ensure compliance with US, Canada, and Malaysian statutory requirements
  • Liaise with external accountants, auditors, payroll providers and tax agents as needed
  • Maintain proper filing and documentation of financial records in accordance with company policy and local regulations
  • Document, maintain, and regularly update accounting and bookkeeping procedures and process documentation to ensure accuracy, consistency, and continuity across the team
  • Assist the US finance team with routine bookkeeping tasks (data entry, invoice processing, reconciliations) during overlapping hours
  • Help maintain consistency in bookkeeping practices across entities
  • Provide administrative support related to finance and accounting operations as needed
  • Flexible to occasional ad hoc requests from the US team (training provided on US-specific tools and processes)
Requirements:
  • Minimum 3 to 5 years of relevant bookkeeping experience (professional certification such as CPA not required, but solid practical knowledge of bookkeeping principles is essential)
  • Proficient in accounting software (e.g., NetSuite, Xero, QuickBooks, SQL Accounting, AutoCount, or similar )
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Comfortable working with spreadsheets (Excel/Google Sheets) for reconciliations and reporting
  • Detail-oriented, organized, and able to manage deadlines independently
  • Good written and spoken English (for coordination with the US team)
  • Able to work occasional overlapping hours with the US team when needed

Preferred Skills

  • Preferred experience with NetSuite
  • Familiarity with AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot, or similar) to help draft communications, summarize data, or streamline routine tasks
  • Experience with or interest in automating repetitive bookkeeping processes (e.g., Excel macros/formulas, Power Automate, OCR-based invoice capture, or built-in automation features within accounting software)
  • Prior experience supporting a US-based or multinational finance team
  • Exposure to writing or maintaining process documentation / SOPs

Reporting Relationship

This position is administratively based in the Malaysia office and follows local employment policies and practices. Day-to-day work assignments, priorities, training, and performance expectations related to accounting responsibilities are directed by the U.S. Accountant (or Finance Manager) as part of the Finance Team.
