About the Role:

This role is within the Dow Jones Web Platform Team, responsible for building next-gen web and AI platforms for premium Dow Jones brands across our B2C and B2B portfolio. As a Staff Software Engineer, you will collaborate with a team of engineers, product managers, and product designers to define, architect, and build the web platform that will drive product innovation across Dow Jones.

Staff Software Engineers focus on designing, architecting, building and ensuring the delivery of applications and services to the business. They continuously strive to improve the release and development processes to ensure reliable and high quality products. They champion the product scalability, usability, reliability, functionality and performance-related aspects of the system. They scale themselves by delegating effectively to ensure tasks are completed as specified. They are proactive in identifying and clearing roadblocks for the team.

You Will:
  • Define and implement application architecture models and programming standards with direction setting support.
  • Analyze complex technological problems and present solutions that span across multiple engineering teams
  • Partner effectively with product teams to manage scope and deliverables for the technical side of the product roadmap
  • Successfully collaborate with engineers across Dow Jones and News Corp to build out products and leverage shared technologies
  • Define application development standards for designing, building and maintaining applications, application components, and common services including the recommended use of languages and tools.


You Have:
  • 7+ years in software engineering, with 3-5 years in a lead engineering role
  • Substantial experience in building digital subscription products, advertising and privacy technologies, and high-traffic websites
  • Strong understanding of Javascript and the best practices around the web
  • Advanced CSS Knowledge: Grid, Flexbox, Media Queries, Container Queries, Transitions, etc.
  • Experience with AI tools (Copilot, Claude Code, OpenAI, etc.) for the purpose of improving productivity and building consumer facing products.
  • Record of collaborating with other engineers in large scale projects
  • Knowledge of Software Engineering fundamentals including web development, service-oriented architecture, cloud computing, test driven development and domain driven design
  • Proven understanding of Computer Science fundamentals including computer architecture, data structures, memory allocation and management, algorithms, and networking
  • Significant hands on experience with AWS, GCP and/or other cloud providers
  • Exposure to Docker or other container based application deployment
  • Experience with technologies: ExpressJs, React, Redis, NextJs, Terraform, Webpack, Elastic Search, GraphQL, React-Native
