Job Description
The Material Handler is a versatile team member responsible for supporting all aspects of the warehouse, yard, and fabrication shop operations. This position is expected to become proficient in all three areas and provide support wherever business needs require. The ideal candidate is dependable, safety-conscious, mechanically inclined, and committed to producing quality work while maintaining an organized and efficient operation.
Cross-training is a requirement of this position. Employees are expected to learn all operational functions and demonstrate the ability to work independently in each department.
Hours are 8am-430p Monday through friday
Overtime available when business supports it
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Warehouse Operations
- Receive, inspect, and stock incoming materials.
- Pull, stage, and verify customer orders accurately.
- Prepare orders for delivery or customer pickup.
- Load and unload trucks using forklifts and other material handling equipment.
- Maintain organized warehouse inventory.
- Assist with inventory counts and cycle counts.
- Keep the warehouse clean, organized, and free of safety hazards.
Yard Operations
- Safely load and unload fencing materials including pipe, posts, gates, panels, wire, wood, vinyl, chain link, ornamental fence, and accessories.
- Assist customers and contractors with material pickups.
- Organize inventory throughout the yard for efficient storage and accessibility.
- Operate forklifts and other yard equipment safely.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe outdoor work environment.
- Inspect incoming materials for damage or shortages.
Fabrication Shop Operations
- Fabricate and assemble gates and custom fence products according to specifications.
- Measure, cut, drill, assemble, and package fence components.
- Operate fabrication equipment, saws, drills, and other shop tools safely and efficiently.
- Perform quality inspections to ensure products meet company standards.
- Prepare fabricated products for shipment or customer pickup.
- Maintain fabrication equipment and report maintenance needs.
- Keep the fabrication shop clean, organized, and safe.
General Responsibilities
- Cross-train and become proficient in warehouse, yard, and fabrication shop duties.
- Follow all company safety policies and OSHA regulations.
- Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
- Maintain a positive attitude and work effectively with coworkers and customers.
- Complete assigned tasks accurately and efficiently.
- Report equipment problems, inventory discrepancies, or safety concerns to management.
- Assist other departments as workload demands.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to increase efficiency and productivity.
- Maintain regular attendance and punctuality.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Warehouse, construction, manufacturing, fabrication, or fencing experience preferred.
- Forklift certification or ability to become certified.
- Ability to read a tape measure and follow work orders or shop drawings.
- Mechanical aptitude and experience using hand and power tools preferred.
- Strong work ethic with a willingness to learn multiple job functions.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
Physical Requirements
- Frequently lift, carry, push, and pull up to 75 pounds.
- Stand, bend, kneel, squat, climb, and walk throughout the workday.
- Operate forklifts, hand tools, power tools, and shop equipment.
- Work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Perform repetitive physical tasks throughout the shift.
