Forge Constructors is a commercial general contractor delivering ground-up construction, renovation, and tenant improvement projects across Texas. Our team is built on hands-on project leadership, disciplined field execution, and long-term client relationships. As we grow, we're looking for an Accounting Manager to bring structure and rigor to our day-to-day accounting operations and support the team as we scale.
About the role
The Accounting Manager oversees the day-to-day accounting operations for Forge Constructors, including job cost accounting, AP/AR, billing, and month-end close. This role reports to the Controller, supervises one Project Accountant, and works closely with Project Managers to ensure accurate job costing and timely, compliant billing across all active projects. This position is based out of our Addison, TX office. Team members work onsite Monday through Thursday, with the option to work from home on Fridays.
What you'll do
- Manage month-end and year-end close processes, including account reconciliations, journal entries, and accrual review.
- Oversee job cost accounting across active projects, ensuring costs are coded accurately and budgets are tracked against actuals.
- Supervise and review the work of one Project Accountant, providing guidance on AP, AR, and lien waiver processing.
- Prepare and review owner billings (AIA G702/G703), subcontractor pay applications, and retention tracking.
- Maintain and reconcile the general ledger in Sage 300 CRE (or Yardi), ensuring data integrity across job cost and financial modules.
- Partner with Project Managers to review WIP schedules, cost-to-complete projections, and monthly job cost reports.
- Support the Controller with cash flow forecasting, budget variance analysis, and audit preparation.
- Ensure compliance with lien law requirements, sales/use tax, and subcontractor insurance/compliance documentation.
- Identify and implement process improvements to strengthen accounting controls and close-cycle efficiency.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 5–8 years of progressive accounting experience, with a strong background in construction or job cost accounting.
- Hands-on experience with construction accounting software (Sage 300 CRE or similar) is required.
- Prior experience supervising or mentoring accounting staff.
- Solid understanding of AIA billing formats, retention, lien waivers, and WIP reporting.
- Strong Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups) and comfort working across multiple active project ledgers.
- High attention to detail with strong organizational and communication skills.
