Yellowstone Club’s Lift Operations department is currently seeking candidates for a Supervisor. This is a seasonal full-time position located in Big Sky, Montana.

POSITION SUMMARY: Lift Operation Supervisors oversee the day-to-day workflow of the Lift Operations department. Duties of the position include, but are not limited to: Providing training to new operators as well as training current employees when the opportunity presents itself, providing consistent feedback to Operators, ensuring all daily tasks are completed in a timely manner, independently identifying and completing tasks to help the department, working with operators and other staff members to find solutions to problems that may arise, and ensuring all arial tramways and surface lifts are being operated and maintained in accordance to the standards set forth by Yellowstone Club as well as by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI B77.1-2017). Supervisors are to set the example for the Operators in member and guest service, guideline compliance, personal appearance, and interpersonal relationships with other employees.

SUMMARY OF EXPECTATIONS OF THIS POSITION:

  • Adheres to Yellowstone Club’s and the Lift Operations Department’s policies and procedures;
  • Performs duties as workload necessitates.
  • Maintains a positive and respectful attitude;
  • Communicates regularly and effectively with all employees, supervisors, managers;
  • Demonstrates flexible and efficient time management and ability to prioritize workload;
  • Consistently reports to work on time prepared to perform duties of position;
  • Meets departmental productivity, organization and consistency standards;
  • Complies with laws, ordinances and regulations;
  • Performs work in a safe and high quality manner.
  • Adheres to Employee Guidelines and Standards of Conduct at all times.

PERFORMANCE FACTORS:

  • Attendance/ Punctuality and Dependability: Depended upon to report to work at the scheduled time, is seldom absent from work, and keeps unplanned absences to a minimum. Employee follows company policy of reporting/planning absences and going through the correct channels to request time off. Completes work in a timely, accurate and thorough manner, is conscientious about assignments and deadlines.
  • Normal Work Schedule: Flexible to accommodate 4, 10-hour work days or another variation of 40 hours/ week with limited to no overtime unless prior approval is granted, 30 minutes for lunch unpaid.
  • Normal Winter Season: Must be available to work for the entire season which is generally from early December through late April.
  • Teamwork and Flexibility: Ability to help and share knowledge or expertise with others. Responds and adapts positively to new ideas, requests, and/or changing situations. Provides meaningful feedback and responds well to constructive criticism.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • To determine that all Ski Lifts are operational and that all operating personnel are trained, equipped, and fit to perform their duties.
  • Disseminate information pertaining to lift operations and Yellowstone Club policies to the department employees.
  • Ensure that all Ski Lifts are prepared to open on time, inspection of preoperational checks.
  • Discontinue operation of any ski lift due to physical, weather, personnel, mechanical or other reasons in conjunction with the Lift Operator, Lift Maintenance, Ski Patrol, and Director of Mountain Operations.
  • Enforce operational, maintenance, and safety rules, regulations and procedures.
  • Foster excellent member and guest relations and provide top quality service.
  • Review periodically each employee’s progress within the department with Manager and other Supervisors.
  • Establish and monitor lift operations to ensure safe, reliable operations in the most cost effective manner.
  • Pursue proficiency in all aspects of supervisory skills.
  • Attend all necessary training seminars and workshops pertaining to job description.
  • Maintain effective communication to ensure effective inter-departmental relations to ensure a harmonious mountain operation for members, guests, and employees.
  • Comply with all Yellowstone Club policies and procedures and assure that all subordinate employees do the same.
  • Operate all Yellowstone Club motor vehicles, equipment and snowmobiles for safe and efficient transportation and work needs.
  • Notify managers of any problems.
  • Housekeeping to maintain buildings and facilities at a professional level.
  • Use good judgment.
  • Complete all tasks assigned consistently and promptly.
  • Be punctual and dependable and pay attention to detail.
  • Perform all related duties as assigned.

PAY:

  • The starting wage is $28.50 + DOE

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Knowledge:
    • The structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills.
    • Resourcefulness, good judgment and self-confidence.
    • Ski lift operation, maintenance, construction, ANSI and OSHA code.
    • Sensitivity to confidential and security related issues.
    • Snowmobile safety and operation.
  • Skills and Abilities:
    • Reading and writing comprehension – understanding written sentences and paragraphs in work related documents and communicating effectively in writing as appropriate for the needs of the audience.
    • Oral and written communication skills – speaking, listening, reading or writing and understanding information and ideas presented; talking to others to convey information effectively.
    • Active listening – giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate and not interrupting at inappropriate times.

    • Interpretive skills – ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and instruction manuals, blueprints, and procedure manuals. Ability to write reports and correspondence.
    • Organizational – Help to keep supplies, tools, and paperwork neat and well organized
  • Education and Experience:
    • High school diploma, GED or vocational training or job-related course work required
    • Three years experience in all aspects of ski lift operations, ski lift construction, and/or ski lift maintenance
    • Two years management and/or supervisory experience in lift related field.
    • Must possess a valid US driver’s license.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Must have expert skiing/snowboarding ability
  • Must have the ability to work in adverse conditions including, but not limited to outside weather conditions or near moving parts.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk and hear.
  • Wear proper personal protective equipment (PPE) or safety equipment such as harnesses, safety shoes, glasses, gloves, hearing protection, respirator, ski helmets, hard hats.
  • Be exposed to hazardous equipment and substances.
  • The ability to work exposed to sound and noise levels that are distracting and uncomfortable without hearing protection.
  • Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • The ability to have face-to-face discussions with individuals or teams.
  • Must be able to safely lift 30lbs.
  • The ability to safely operate company vehicles and machinery such as snowmobiles and light trucks.
