  • Recognize genuine emergency calls and immediately follow established procedures for emergency, fire, security, and STAT communications.
  • Perform paging-related duties, including paging physicians and managing or rolling pagers as required.
  • Support same-day updates to on-call schedules as a backup resource for department schedulers.
  • Assist medical faculty, staff, visitors, and callers in accordance with established hospital and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Communicate professionally with individuals at all levels of the organization and members of the public, including callers who may have limited English proficiency.
  • Maintain composure and professionalism when interacting with irritated, concerned, abusive, or highly distressed callers.
  • Remain attentive and accurate while working for extended periods in a fast-paced, service-oriented call center environment.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • At least one year of customer service or console attendant experience preferred.
  • Experience working in a medical office or healthcare environment is preferred.
  • Strong verbal communication, active listening, and customer service skills, with the ability to understand callers quickly and route them appropriately.
  • Ability to think clearly and make sound decisions under pressure, particularly when handling urgent or emergency communications.
  • Demonstrated ability to remain calm, courteous, mature, and professional when dealing with challenging or distressed individuals.
  • Ability to work effectively with people across different organizational levels and with members of the public.
  • Ability to assist callers who have limited English proficiency and adapt communication to different needs.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow established procedures consistently.
  • Ability to sit for extended periods, typically 6–8 hours, and work effectively under stressful conditions.
  • Availability for a part-time schedule of approximately 16 hours per week.
Benefits
  • Part-time employment in a healthcare environment.
  • Opportunity to contribute to essential hospital communications and patient-facing services.
  • Structured procedures and training within an established healthcare organization.
  • Exposure to hospital operations, emergency communication processes, and clinical support services.
  • Work environment designed to support individuals who can maintain professionalism and focus during high-pressure situations.
  • Reasonable accommodations may be available to enable qualified individuals with disabilities to perform essential job functions.
