Position Summary

The Principal Architect is a senior individual contributor responsible for transforming complex client needs into scalable, practical, and executable technology solutions.

This role combines client advisory, technical discovery, solution architecture, estimation, proposal development, and hands-on engineering. Approximately 80% of the position focuses on shaping client opportunities and solutions, with 20% supporting active engagements and strengthening York’s architecture capabilities.

The role requires broad technical curiosity and the ability to quickly assess unfamiliar technologies, engage specialists when needed, and develop credible solutions across multiple technology domains.

Key Responsibilities

Solution Discovery and Architecture

• Lead technical discovery sessions with client business and technology stakeholders.
• Translate ambiguous business needs into clear technical requirements and solution approaches.
• Design end-to-end solutions across applications, cloud, data, integrations, infrastructure, automation, security, and AI.
• Evaluate architecture alternatives based on scalability, maintainability, performance, security, cost, and delivery risk.

Proposal and Engagement Design

• Own the technical solution and delivery approach for TSG opportunities.
• Develop project scope, workstreams, deliverables, milestones, dependencies, team structures, and effort estimates.
• Contribute technical content to proposals, Statements of Work, RFIs, RFPs, and client presentations.
• Partner with sales, account, delivery, and leadership teams throughout the opportunity lifecycle.

Technical and Client Leadership

• Serve as a trusted advisor to client executives, technology leaders, architects, and engineering teams.
• Communicate technical recommendations, risks, and trade-offs to technical and non-technical audiences.
• Support prototypes, proofs of concept, technical investigations, and solution validation.
• Transition proposed solutions to delivery teams and provide consultation on significant architecture decisions or risks.

AI and Practice Development

• Identify practical opportunities to apply generative AI, intelligent automation, machine learning, and agentic solutions.
• Evaluate AI platforms, models, frameworks, data requirements, security, reliability, cost, and build-versus-buy options.
• Develop reusable reference architectures, solution patterns, estimation methods, templates, and accelerators.
• Mentor engineering managers, technical leads, and engineers.

• 10+ years of technology experience, including 5+ years in solution, technical, or enterprise architecture.
• Experience designing and delivering complex enterprise technology solutions.
• Broad knowledge across application architecture, cloud platforms, data systems, APIs, integrations, distributed systems, infrastructure, security, and DevOps.
• Ability to translate incomplete requirements into architectures, delivery plans, estimates, and appropriate team structures.
• Experience working directly with clients and senior business and technology stakeholders.
• Strong technical problem-solving, communication, presentation, and facilitation skills.
• Ability to lead through influence and remain hands-on when prototyping or technical validation is needed.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in consulting, professional services, systems integration, or another client-facing delivery environment.
• Experience shaping project-based or outcome-based engagements and contributing to technical proposals and Statements of Work.
• Experience with AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.
• Experience developing AI or generative AI solutions.
• Experience creating reusable architecture standards, frameworks, patterns, or accelerators.
