Bank Chief Operations Officer

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Bank Chief Operations Officer based in the United States.

This senior leadership role is responsible for building and overseeing the operational backbone of a newly formed regulated banking institution.
The position plays a critical part in ensuring the safe, compliant, and efficient execution of all banking and payment activities.
It requires close collaboration across product, engineering, risk, compliance, treasury, and external banking partners.
The role will shape and scale core operational processes including payments, servicing, collections, and reconciliations.
It offers a unique opportunity to contribute to a de novo bank environment where structure, controls, and systems are being built from the ground up.
The ideal candidate thrives in fast-paced fintech or banking environments and brings strong analytical and operational leadership capabilities.

Accountabilities:
  • Lead daily banking and payment operations, ensuring accurate and timely processing of ACH, wires, RTP, card settlements, funding flows, and customer-related transactions, while resolving exceptions and supporting new banking integrations.
  • Oversee servicing and collections operations, ensuring performance aligns with regulatory requirements, customer experience standards, SLAs, and key operational KPIs, while optimizing delinquency and recovery strategies.
  • Manage third-party vendors including banking partners, payment processors, servicing providers, and collections agencies, ensuring strong governance, performance monitoring, and issue resolution.
  • Maintain reconciliation frameworks, operational controls, and reporting dashboards to ensure accuracy, completeness, and transparency across financial and payment operations.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and internal risk frameworks while supporting audits, examinations, and control testing activities.
  • Drive operational improvements by identifying automation opportunities and partnering with product, engineering, and data teams to enhance scalability and efficiency.
  • Serve as a key cross-functional liaison across internal stakeholders including risk, compliance, legal, treasury, accounting, and customer support.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, Economics, or a related field.
  • 3–7 years of experience in banking operations, payments, treasury, fintech operations, or similar financial services environments.
  • Strong knowledge of payment systems including ACH, wire transfers, settlement processes, reconciliation workflows, and cash management operations.
  • Experience working with banking partners, financial institutions, and third-party vendors in regulated environments.
  • Strong analytical and data interpretation skills, with familiarity in reporting tools and operational dashboards.
  • Understanding of operational risk, compliance frameworks, and financial controls (including SOX concepts preferred).
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and problem-solving skills with strong attention to detail in fast-paced environments.
