Assistant Professor of Neuroscience & BehaviorThe Department of Neuroscience and Behavior at Barnard College, Columbia University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor position, beginning July 2027. The successful candidate will establish an innovative, externally funded research program in neuroscience. We are especially interested in candidates whose research advances our understanding of the mechanisms underlying learning and memory across levels of analysis. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to, the cellular, molecular, systems, or behavioral mechanisms of learning, memory encoding, consolidation, retrieval, developmental or lifespan changes in learning and memory, or neurological or psychiatric disorders. Candidates employing computational, behavioral, systems, cellular, molecular, or other integrative approaches are encouraged to apply.

Job Description:

Barnard is a premier liberal arts undergraduate college for women in New York City affiliated with Columbia University.

Barnard faculty are members of the vibrant Columbia University neuroscience community. They have extensive opportunities for collaboration across the university and New York City, including at the Zuckerman Institute, Columbia University Irving Medical Center, and the New York State Psychiatric Institute. The Neuroscience and Behavior Department occupies a new state-of-the-art research facility.

Teaching responsibilities include four courses per year. The successful candidate will contribute to the Neuroscience and Behavior curriculum and will have the opportunity to develop courses aligned with their expertise, including learning and memory, behavioral neuroscience, systems neuroscience, cognitive neuroscience, computational neuroscience, or related fields. We are especially interested in candidates with a demonstrated commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching and mentoring and with experience or strong potential for engaging undergraduate researchers from diverse backgrounds.

Salary: $95,000 - $115,000

The search committee plans to conduct Zoom interviews with semi-finalists around mid to late November 2026. Campus visits will be conducted around December 2026. Required Qualifications

A Ph.D. and postdoctoral experience are required; teaching experience is desirable and will be considered in the evaluation of candidates.
