This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Software Engineer - OpenStack based in Switzerland.
Join a globally distributed engineering team building open-source technologies that power modern cloud infrastructure. In this role, you’ll develop and maintain software for OpenStack and Ceph, helping bring scalable cloud platforms to diverse computing environments. You’ll work primarily with Python while tackling challenges across infrastructure automation, distributed systems, and software-defined data centers. Your contributions will support deployments ranging from individual machines to large-scale bare-metal environments. You’ll collaborate with experienced engineers across countries and cultures, contributing to both code and technical decision-making. The role offers significant opportunities to work with open-source technologies while continuously developing your engineering expertise.
- Develop high-quality software and new features for OpenStack and Ceph deployment and management.
- Collaborate proactively with a globally distributed engineering team to design effective technical solutions.
- Debug complex technical issues, investigate root causes, and implement reliable fixes.
- Review code from other engineers and contribute constructive feedback to maintain high engineering standards.
- Help ensure OpenStack and Ceph operate successfully across multiple hardware architectures and computing environments.
- Contribute to infrastructure automation and infrastructure-as-code solutions using Python and related technologies.
- Participate in technical discussions, architecture decisions, and collaborative problem-solving.
- Work remotely while participating in international travel several times per year for internal and external events.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science, STEM, or a related technical discipline.
- Professional software engineering experience with strong proficiency in Python.
- Demonstrated interest or experience in at least two relevant technologies or domains, such as Ubuntu Linux, Kubernetes, OpenStack, Ceph, AI/ML, QEMU/KVM, LXC/LXD, Go, C, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Debian packaging, or scalable web services.
- Experience working with OpenStack, OVN, Open vSwitch, or related cloud and infrastructure technologies.
- Experience with non-x86 architectures such as ARM64, s390, Power, or other architectures is highly valuable.
- Strong understanding of software engineering principles, debugging, code review, and collaborative development.
- Passion for open-source software, Linux, distributed systems, and the evolution of software-defined data centers.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively within a globally distributed organization.
- Self-motivated, curious, flexible, accountable, and comfortable taking ownership of technical challenges.
- Ability and willingness to travel internationally approximately two to four times per year, typically for one to two weeks at a time.
