Department Overview

The supervisor will experience competing demands from pharmacy management, nurses, physicians, pharmacy staff, and other healthcare professionals as they attempt to influence clinical decision-making, clinical policies and practices, and workflow. The supervisor must deal with intense situations on a daily basis. In addition, within the healthcare setting there can be significant lack of control over the work pace, with frequent interruptions (work is often dictated by external factors) that may lead to mental fatigue or stress.

This position is responsible for overseeing staff while guiding, enhancing, developing, and implementing

programs and initiatives designed to support pharmacy services at Richmond. Responsibilities include, but are

not limited to, employee supervision, education and training of staff, residents, interns, and students, program development, quality assessment, process improvement, insurance audits, customer service, profitability and compliance with accreditation standards and applicable laws and regulations. Works with Richmond Pharmacy Operations Manager to ensure compliance with 340B program rules. This includes support in the adherence to 340B policies and procedures, implementing 340B self-audit procedures and remediation of findings; responsibility for day to day operations and compliance of the 340B pharmacy. This position serves as a clinical role model by staffing their service area(s) in order to maintain their content expertise. In addition they will serve as Pharmacist-In-Charge for their specific pharmacy operations.

Function/Duties of Position
  • Responsible for executing all dispensing job duties as outlined in the Richmond Pharmacist position description.

  • Supervision of staff: in collaboration with the Richmond Pharmacy Operations Manager recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules, and supervises assigned staff. Develops performance standards and conducts performance reviews in accordance with hospital policy.

  • Program Design & Development: Contribute to the development of programs, initiatives, facilities, and systems for continuous departmental improvement. Develop and monitor dashboards and quality metrics related to pharmacy department and service area(s) goals. Contribute to the development of policies, procedures, and workflows related to Richmond’s 340B program to the in-house dispensing pharmacy.

  • Process Improvement: Establish best practices in service area(s) to improve patient care outcomes. Identify opportunities for value analysis and resolve unsafe conditions and inefficient work processes. Assist in the management of drug shortages and high-cost medications by providing clinical expertise related to utilization and alternative therapies.

  • Other Duties as Assigned

Required Qualifications
  • Pharm.D. or BS in Pharmacy with equivalent experience
  • 3 years of Pharmacist experience.
  • Pharmacist Licensure in the State of Oregon (required at start of position)
  • Pharmacist License in the State of Washington (required at start of position or soon after)
  • Proficiency in an area of clinical pharmacy practice.
  • Professional communication, written and verbal.
  • Contemporary practice of pharmacy.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Board Certification in: Ambulatory Care Pharmacy, Pharmacotherapy, or Psychiatric Pharmacy
  • Experience with in-house 340B pharmacy at an FQHC.
  • 340B Advanced Operations Certificate
  • Work history demonstrating involvement in leadership projects.
  • Work history as Pharmacist in Charge.
