Position Summary:

Under the supervision of the Culinary Manager, the Food Service team member is responsible for ensuring a pleasant and efficient dining experience for residents and guests in the community. This role includes serving meals, maintaining cleanliness and organization in dining areas, assisting with food preparation, and supporting the overall operation of the culinary department. The Food Service position plays a key role in promoting resident satisfaction through courteous service, attention to detail, and teamwork.

Essential Functions:

  • Greet residents warmly and provide courteous, waiter/waitress-style service during meals.
  • Deliver food and beverages promptly and accurately to residents and guests.
  • Refill beverages and maintain table supplies (e.g., condiments, creamers, jellies).
  • Clear tables and clean dining areas between and after meals.
  • Assist with food prep and kitchen tasks as needed.
  • Take and deliver room service orders to resident apartments.
  • Restock supplies and clean juice dispensers, appliances, and dining equipment.
  • Clean and sanitize dining rooms, including mopping and wiping down surfaces.
  • Assist with dishwashing and kitchen cleanup, including pots, pans, and utensils.
  • Set tables for daily meals and special events.
  • Report food and supply needs, as well as equipment issues, to the Food Service Director.
  • Promptly report any changes in a resident’s condition or behavior to appropriate staff.
  • Ensure a staff presence is maintained in the dining room whenever residents are present.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Culinary Manager.
Requirements:

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Knowledge of safe food preparation and handling techniques.
  • Knowledge of basic nutrition and food.
  • Skilled in quantity food production.
  • Ability to read and write at a level appropriate for the job.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with residents and their family members and at all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to be patient and polite.
  • Ability to be accurate, concise, and detail-oriented.
  • Ability to read, speak, understand, and communicate effectively in English through verbal and written means.
  • Ability to do basic math.
