Sr. Revenue Accountant / Revenue Accounting Lead

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Sr. Revenue Accountant / Revenue Accounting Lead based in United States.

We are seeking a technically skilled and operationally driven revenue accounting professional to take ownership of revenue recognition processes and financial controls.
This role plays a critical part in ensuring ASC 606 compliance, improving revenue operations, and supporting scalable financial processes.
You will manage complex revenue accounting activities while partnering closely with teams across finance, operations, legal, and business systems.
The position offers the opportunity to influence process improvements, automation initiatives, and reporting accuracy within a fast-growing technology environment.
You will serve as a trusted advisor on revenue-related matters, combining technical accounting expertise with strong business judgment.

Accountabilities:

The Sr. Revenue Accountant / Revenue Accounting Lead will own key revenue accounting processes, ensuring compliance, accuracy, and operational efficiency across the organization. This role requires strong technical accounting knowledge, process optimization skills, and cross-functional collaboration. Key responsibilities include:

  • Own and execute the monthly revenue close process, including contract reviews, standalone selling price analysis, contract modifications, multi-element arrangements, and revenue disclosures under ASC 606.
  • Prepare and review revenue journal entries, account reconciliations, and variance analyses with complete audit documentation.
  • Partner with business operations teams to evaluate contracts and determine revenue recognition implications before execution.
  • Maintain and strengthen internal controls over revenue processes, including documentation of policies, procedures, and control frameworks.
  • Coordinate with external auditors during quarterly reviews and annual audits, managing audit requests, schedules, and supporting documentation.
  • Monitor accounting standards and regulatory updates to assess their impact on revenue recognition policies and procedures.
  • Identify opportunities to improve revenue close processes, reduce manual activities, and implement scalable workflows.
  • Maintain revenue system accuracy by collaborating with business systems teams to ensure proper data flow between contract platforms, CRM systems, ERP systems, and the general ledger.
  • Build and maintain revenue schedules, reporting templates, and automated monitoring tools using Excel, Google Sheets, and emerging AI solutions where applicable.
  • Prepare executive-ready revenue reporting packages, financial analysis, and variance explanations for finance leadership.
  • Act as a strategic partner to finance and business teams, providing guidance on revenue-related decisions and risks.
  • Mentor junior accounting team members and establish high standards for documentation, accuracy, and operational excellence.

Requirements:

The ideal candidate is an experienced revenue accounting professional with strong expertise in SaaS revenue recognition, financial controls, and process improvement. You should be comfortable operating in complex environments, managing competing priorities, and translating technical accounting concepts into practical business solutions. Requirements include:

  • 4–6+ years of progressive revenue accounting experience, with demonstrated ownership of ASC 606 processes in a SaaS or software environment.
  • Experience working in both private and public company environments, or within public-company-ready organizations with strong audit standards.
  • Hands-on experience owning month-end close activities and managing audit processes.
  • Strong understanding of internal controls, SOX compliance requirements, and audit coordination.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities, identify risks, and deliver results in a fast-paced environment.
  • Advanced Excel and Google Sheets skills, with experience using ERP and CRM systems such as NetSuite, Salesforce, or similar platforms.
  • CPA certification preferred (active or inactive).
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills with the ability to investigate issues, identify root causes, and implement solutions.
  • Ability to communicate complex accounting conclusions clearly through policies, documentation, and business recommendations.
  • Process-oriented mindset with experience improving workflows, automation, and operational efficiency.
  • Ability to operate effectively in ambiguous environments and create structure where needed.
  • Preferred experience with Big 4 public accounting firms supporting technology clients.
  • Experience supporting IPO preparation, M&A activities, or major financial systems implementations is a plus.
  • Familiarity with revenue automation platforms such as Zuora Revenue, RevPro, or NetSuite ARM is preferred.
  • Exposure to usage-based or consumption-based revenue models is beneficial.
  • Experience leveraging AI tools to improve accounting workflows and automation is a plus.
