Position Summary

The Safety Coordinator supports the implementation and administration of workplace safety programs at Kitchen Food Company's Hopkinsville manufacturing facility. Working closely with Human Resources, Operations, Engineering, Maintenance, Warehouse, and FSQA, the role helps maintain a safe working environment through safety training, inspections, incident investigations, compliance activities, and continuous improvement initiatives. The Safety Coordinator plays a key role in promoting safe work practices, supporting OSHA compliance, and fostering a strong safety culture across the site.

Key ResponsibilitiesSafety Programs & Compliance
  • Support the implementation and administration of workplace safety policies, procedures, and programs.
  • Maintain OSHA/KOSH records, training documentation, inspection reports, and corrective action logs.
  • Assist with safety audits, inspections, compliance activities, and management reporting.
  • Communicate safety requirements and updates to employees and supervisors.
Hazard Identification & Incident Management
  • Conduct routine workplace inspections and safety observations.
  • Identify hazards, document findings, and track corrective actions through to completion.
  • Assist with incident investigations, near-miss reporting, root cause analysis, and corrective action implementation.
  • Support workers' compensation administration and return-to-work activities as required.
  • Escalate significant safety concerns to site leadership.
Training & Employee Engagement
  • Coordinate and deliver safety orientation, refresher training, toolbox talks, and safety communications.
  • Maintain training records and ensure required safety training is completed.
  • Promote employee participation in hazard reporting and safety improvement initiatives.
Emergency Preparedness & Operational Support
  • Coordinate emergency drills, evacuation exercises, and emergency preparedness activities.
  • Support contractor, visitor, startup, and new equipment safety programs.
  • Participate in risk assessments, pre-startup reviews, and safety improvement projects.
Reporting & Continuous Improvement
  • Track and report safety metrics, training completion, inspection findings, and corrective actions.
  • Partner with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, Warehouse, FSQA, and HR to improve workplace safety performance.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives that reduce risk and strengthen the site's safety culture.
Qualifications & Job Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health & Safety, Industrial Safety, or a related field preferred; relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • 2+ years of safety experience in manufacturing, warehousing, food production, or a similar environment preferred.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA regulations and workplace safety principles.
  • Experience supporting inspections, safety training, incident investigations, and corrective action programs.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to work flexible hours when required to support training, investigations, or startup activities.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in food manufacturing or another highly regulated environment.
  • OSHA 30-Hour General Industry certification.
  • First Aid/CPR/AED certification.
  • Experience with workers' compensation, LOTO, machine safety, powered industrial trucks, or contractor safety.
  • ASP, GSP, or other relevant safety certification preferred but not required.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Practical, hands-on approach to workplace safety.
  • Strong hazard identification, investigation, and corrective action follow-up skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with employees at all levels of the organization.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Professional discretion when handling confidential information.
Physical & Work Environment Requirements
  • Regular work in both office and food manufacturing environments.
  • Ability to walk, stand, bend, climb stairs, and conduct inspections throughout the facility.
  • Ability to wear required PPE and comply with GMP, food safety, and site requirements.
  • Exposure to production equipment, forklifts, cleaning chemicals, refrigerated areas, noise, and varying temperatures.
  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 30 pounds.
  • Availability to respond to urgent safety matters outside normal business hours when required.
