Colony Park Animal Hospital is seeking the next great addition to our Pet Care team. Our team is made up of supportive and compassionate veterinarians, veterinary assistant, and support staff who share a passion for delivering quality care to cats and dogs in our care. We are looking for a reliable and hardworking individual who is looking to gain skills in a veterinary environment.

About the Role:

The Pet Care Assistant plays a vital role in ensuring the health, safety, and well-being of animals under care. This position involves providing attentive and compassionate support to pets, assisting with their daily needs, and maintaining a clean and organized environment. The role requires effective communication with pet owners and team members to deliver exceptional service and care. Additionally, the Pet Care Assistant contributes to monitoring animal behavior and health, reporting any concerns promptly to veterinary staff. Ultimately, this position supports the smooth operation of pet care services, enhancing the overall experience for both pets and their owners.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Basic knowledge of animal biology and behavior.
  • Proficiency in record-keeping and data management.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently and provide clear direction when necessary.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including two weekends per month and holidays.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in pet care, veterinary assistance, or animal shelter work.
  • Formal training or certification in animal care or related fields.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with appropriate grammar usage.
  • Experience using computerized scheduling and record-keeping systems.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in caring for, feeding, and exercising pets according to established schedules and guidelines.
  • Monitor and record animal behavior, health status, and any changes, reporting concerns to veterinary or supervisory staff.
  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of animal living areas, equipment, and supplies to ensure a safe environment.
  • Ability to perform heavy cleaning tasks, and physically demanding work such as bending, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
  • Provide clear and courteous communication to pet owners regarding their pets’ care.
  • Manage multiple tasks simultaneously, including updating records, and supporting team members as needed.

The required skills are essential for daily operations, such as using hospital systems to maintain accurate records of pet care activities and health data. Appropriate grammar and bilingual English skills enable clear and professional communication with pet owners and team members, ensuring instructions and information are understood. Managing multiple tasks simultaneously is critical to balancing feeding schedules, cleaning duties, and administrative responsibilities efficiently. Providing direction and support to colleagues helps maintain a coordinated and effective care environment.
