Senior Risk Consultant II - Power Generation Natural Resources

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Risk Consultant II - Power Generation Natural Resources based in United States.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced risk engineering professional to play a key role in supporting complex power generation and renewable energy operations across a diverse portfolio of industrial clients. The position combines technical expertise, client engagement, and strategic risk assessment to help organizations strengthen operational resilience and manage evolving exposures. Working closely with underwriting, claims, and external stakeholders, you will contribute to risk selection, loss prevention strategies, and portfolio growth initiatives. The role offers exposure to both conventional and renewable energy sectors, including emerging technologies and sustainable operations. This position is ideal for professionals who enjoy combining fieldwork, analytical assessments, and client advisory services in a dynamic and highly specialized environment. Remote flexibility is available for candidates residing in Illinois, Georgia, Texas, or New York.

Accountabilities
  • Conduct desktop risk reviews and engineering assessments before and after loss events, evaluating operational exposures, controls, and potential risk impacts.
  • Support underwriting activities by providing technical loss control expertise that contributes to risk selection, retention, and portfolio development.
  • Design and implement customized loss prevention and risk consulting programs in collaboration with clients, brokers, claims teams, and underwriting partners.
  • Perform on-site surveys of power generation and renewable energy facilities, identify hazards, assess operational risks, and develop practical mitigation recommendations.
  • Prepare detailed engineering reports, risk evaluations, and loss control recommendations while meeting established quality and reporting standards.
  • Coordinate and oversee third-party consultants and service providers, ensuring contractual compliance, quality delivery, and effective budget management.
  • Assist with specialized projects and provide technical guidance to internal and external stakeholders through presentations, training sessions, and knowledge-sharing initiatives.
  • Build and maintain strong professional relationships with clients, brokers, and cross-functional teams to support long-term business objectives and customer service excellence.
  • Continuously enhance technical expertise in power generation, renewable energy technologies, and emerging industry developments.
Requirements
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in loss prevention engineering, risk consulting, or a related technical discipline within the insurance or natural resources sectors.
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or another relevant technical discipline. Equivalent expertise within the energy and insurance industries may also be considered.
  • Strong technical knowledge of conventional power generation operations, including gas turbines, diesel generators, hydroelectric facilities, biomass, nuclear power, geothermal energy, and thermal solar systems.
  • Experience with renewable energy technologies such as wind energy, solar photovoltaic systems, battery energy storage systems (BESS), hydrogen projects, hydroelectric operations, and carbon capture initiatives.
  • Proven experience conducting field and desktop risk assessments, loss estimations, and developing engineering-based risk mitigation solutions.
  • Familiarity with large corporate accounts and complex industrial operations across multiple business sectors.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze technical loss control issues and communicate recommendations effectively to diverse stakeholders.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365 applications, data analytics tools, AI-enabled technologies, and natural catastrophe modeling concepts.
  • Excellent written, verbal, presentation, organizational, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Self-motivated and capable of working independently within a remote environment while collaborating effectively with distributed teams.
  • Willingness and ability to travel throughout the United States, with occasional international travel requirements.
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States without current or future employer-sponsored visa support.
