Position Summary
The Rotating Equipment Lead is a senior-level professional responsible for ensuring compliance with the reliability program requirements, lead and participating on complex troubleshooting, acting as a trainer and quality control for ensuring that all maintenance, repairs, and installations are completed efficiently and safely.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Ensure the rotating equipment are reliable and its performance is aligned with site and unit reliability targets.
- Under direction, plans, assigns, inspects, supervises and participates in the work of personnel involved in the testing, construction, installation, maintenance and repair of a wide variety of rotating equipment, and devices used in the generating and pumping plant facilities; supervises and participates in performing preventive and corrective maintenance tasks associated with protection schemes, monitoring and control equipment, metering, and sensors; and performs related duties as assigned.
- Plans and evaluates the performance of assigned personnel; provides coaching for performance improvement and development;
- Provides day-to-day leadership and works with staff to ensure a high performance, customer-oriented work environment that supports achieving the department's strategic plan, mission, objectives and values.
- Schedules, coordinates and supervises the work of personnel engaged in the installation, testing, calibration, maintenance and repair of rotating equipment and machinery used in the generation and pumping plant facilities.
- Supervises a variety of difficult and complex tasks in the testing, adjusting, calibrating, modifying, analyzing, operating, and correcting malfunctions in pressure, temperature, flow, vibration, speed, level measuring, monitoring and control systems.
- Support unit MOC process, including Reliability approval of new or modified instrumentation and electrical system designs and changes to instrument system care plans.
- Support the other Maintenance Team members and Reliability with troubleshooting as needed.
- Lead reliability investigations for significant instrumentation and electrical system failures, including proper application of RCA process and corrective action plans.
- Participate in Process Hazard Analysis (PHA), ISO 9000 audits, site/corporate audits.
- Develop action plans to achieve results, including recommendations to resolve emerging issues as part of the “Bad Actor” Process involving rotating equipment.
- Create the critical spare part list for rotating equipment.
- Collaborate with Maintenance Planner and Operations to understand and set priority for rotating equipment repairs impacting reliability.
- Build strategy around rotating equipment training and knowledge support.
- Creates and delivers training to develop the technical capabilities of the reliability, maintenance, and operations team.
- Network with site Reliability team to share best practices.
- Provide technical review of engineering projects; works with OEMs, unit and project teams on specification and selection of new rotating equipment.
- Requisitions materials necessary for plant equipment repair and equipment compliance.
- Purchasing responsibilities, as needed.
- Can interpret blueprints and drawings for part identification and preventative maintenance construction.
- Creates and monitors machine history for predictive failures.
- Coordinates outside contractor schedules to meet Maintenance schedule.
- Submits recommendations for MRO stocking level additions, deletions, and modifications to the Reliability Manager.
- Monitor, track and run reports.
- For new projects or new PM recommendations due to recurrent failures, inform the reliability engineer and planner the need of PM creation and establish the frequency.
- Sporadically audit the Maintenance Team paperwork to ensure they are keeping proper documentation in the files which includes photos, time sheets, etc.
- Evaluate progress and prepare detailed reports.
- Ensure adherence to all health and safety standards and report issues.
- Process project closeouts.
- Perform accurate data entry.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- Researches new electrical and mechanical methods, techniques, and equipment and recommends their application.
- Provides technical assistance and advice to staff departments.
- Provides for the training of staff in work methods, use of tools and equipment, and relevant safety precautions;
- Inspects and evaluates work being performed by staff and contractors; identifies problem areas and directs remedial action.
- Responds to inquiries and complaints from user departments.
- Attends meetings with other departments and staff.
- Develops, prepares and maintains a variety of records and reports, worksheets, accident reports, maintenance requests, purchase orders, request for proposal, contracts, etc.
- Recommends special work or necessary equipment maintenance; reviews completed work.
- Schedules and coordinates activities with other departments and divisions.
- Responds to emergency situations as necessary.
- Ensures the timely completion of preventive and predictive maintenance programs.
- Requisitions necessary tools, equipment, and supplies.
- Researches new operational methods, techniques and equipment and recommends their application.
- Responsible for carrying out safety program; ensures compliance with safety practices in work methods and procedures; enforces proper safety procedures while working in dangerous situations; educates employees on rules, regulations, codes, safe work habits and potential hazards presented by their work environment.
- Plans and lays out jobs from blueprints, drawings, sketches or verbal instructions; maintains records in the form of blueprints, drawings and specifications.
- Plans and oversees the testing of electrical and mechanical equipment and devices on a scheduled basis.
- Develops, reviews and updates written maintenance instructions and schedules.
- Participates in long-term planning to assess future needs as they relate to mechanical systems, equipment and devices.
- Coordinates the shutdown and outage work for the rotating equipment department with the planner.
Education & Experience
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
- 10+ experience with Rotating equipment repair and design.
- Previous experience with any CMMS.
- Understanding and experience with vibration, lubrication and grease tools and concept.
