Machine Mechanic

Job Title: Machine Mechanic
Department: Maintenance
Location: Hailiang Copper Texas Inc., Sealy, Texas
Reports To: Maintenance Supervisor / Maintenance Manager
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Position Summary

Hailiang Copper Texas is seeking a skilled Machine Mechanic to install, troubleshoot, repair, maintain, and improve manufacturing equipment used in the production of copper tubing, busbar, fittings, and related products. The Machine Mechanic is responsible for ensuring equipment reliability, minimizing downtime, and supporting safe and efficient manufacturing operations across the facility.

This position requires strong mechanical aptitude, troubleshooting skills, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced industrial manufacturing environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Inspect, troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair production machinery and equipment.
  • Perform preventive and predictive maintenance activities on manufacturing equipment.
  • Repair and maintain hydraulic, pneumatic, mechanical, and lubrication systems.
  • Replace bearings, belts, chains, gears, motors, pumps, valves, and other mechanical components.
  • Read and interpret mechanical drawings, equipment manuals, and technical documentation.
  • Perform machine alignments, adjustments, and equipment setup activities.
  • Assist with installation, relocation, and commissioning of new production equipment.
  • Identify root causes of equipment failures and implement corrective actions.
  • Work closely with production personnel to resolve equipment issues and improve machine performance.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records and complete work orders in a timely manner.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety, quality, productivity, and equipment reliability.
  • Ensure compliance with all company safety policies, lockout/tagout procedures, and environmental requirements.
  • Participate in emergency breakdown response and equipment recovery activities.
  • Maintain clean and organized work areas in accordance with 5S standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum 3 years of industrial maintenance or machine mechanic experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, hydraulics, pneumatics, bearings, power transmission, and industrial equipment.
  • Ability to troubleshoot equipment failures and perform repairs independently.
  • Experience using hand tools, power tools, precision measuring instruments, and maintenance equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, schematics, and technical manuals.
  • Basic computer skills for maintenance documentation and work order systems.
  • Ability to work overtime, weekends, and emergency call-ins as required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in copper, steel, metals, tubing, extrusion, rolling, or continuous manufacturing operations.
  • Industrial maintenance certification or technical training.
  • Welding and fabrication experience.
  • Forklift, aerial lift, or overhead crane experience.
  • Experience working with PLC-controlled manufacturing equipment.
Physical Requirements
  • Frequently stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb, and work in industrial environments.
  • Lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly.
  • Work around moving mechanical equipment, elevated platforms, and industrial noise.
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Ability to work in varying temperatures and manufacturing conditions.

Working Conditions

This position works in a manufacturing environment supporting 24/7 production operations. Employees may be required to work rotating shifts, weekends, holidays, and overtime as business needs dictate.
