This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Sr Engineering Manager, Web Apps based in the United States.
This role leads the engineering execution for a suite of hosted web applications that power subscription-based digital services used by millions of people worldwide. You will oversee a small but high-impact engineering team responsible for building, maintaining, and evolving secure, reliable, and privacy-respecting web services. The role blends hands-on technical leadership with people management, requiring close engagement with architecture, release cycles, operational readiness, and system reliability. You will help define how a growing engineering organization delivers predictable, high-quality software in a fast-paced, distributed, open-source-aligned environment. A key focus is translating product strategy into clear engineering execution while maintaining strong standards in security, privacy, and performance. This is a highly collaborative role requiring strong alignment across product, infrastructure, and cross-functional stakeholders in a globally distributed setup.
- Lead day-to-day engineering execution for web applications, ensuring clarity of priorities, ownership, timelines, dependencies, and quality expectations across the team.
- Manage and mentor engineers and contractors, providing coaching, feedback, performance support, and long-term career development.
- Define and improve team operating rhythms, including planning, prioritization, release processes, and cross-functional coordination.
- Translate product strategy and technical direction into structured engineering plans and measurable delivery outcomes.
- Oversee team resource planning and budgeting, including contractor management, tooling, and operational spending inputs.
- Strengthen engineering practices across code review, testing, documentation, CI/CD, observability, incident response, and release readiness.
- Partner closely with cross-functional stakeholders to coordinate launches, manage risks, and ensure operational reliability and scalability.
- Maintain sufficient technical depth to evaluate architectural tradeoffs, system risks, and engineering quality decisions effectively.
- 15+ years of overall engineering experience, including 10+ years in engineering leadership roles within SaaS, cloud-based, or complex web application environments.
- 5+ years of people management experience, including coaching senior engineers, setting expectations, and supporting performance and growth.
- Proven experience leading distributed engineering teams and working across product, infrastructure, SRE, and cross-functional stakeholders.
- Strong ability to translate strategic objectives into clear execution plans, delivery frameworks, and team operating models.
- Solid technical depth in web application architecture, system design, release processes, observability, security, and operational reliability.
- Experience managing engineering delivery in environments requiring high accountability, predictable execution, and strong quality standards.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to drive alignment, clarity, and follow-through in ambiguous or evolving environments.
- Experience using or evaluating AI-enabled tools to improve engineering workflows, productivity, and decision-making responsibly.
- Familiarity with modern engineering toolchains (CI/CD, issue tracking, code review, monitoring, documentation systems).
- Experience in open-source or community-driven environments is a strong plus.
