This role leads the engineering execution for a suite of hosted web applications that power subscription-based digital services used by millions of people worldwide. You will oversee a small but high-impact engineering team responsible for building, maintaining, and evolving secure, reliable, and privacy-respecting web services. The role blends hands-on technical leadership with people management, requiring close engagement with architecture, release cycles, operational readiness, and system reliability. You will help define how a growing engineering organization delivers predictable, high-quality software in a fast-paced, distributed, open-source-aligned environment. A key focus is translating product strategy into clear engineering execution while maintaining strong standards in security, privacy, and performance. This is a highly collaborative role requiring strong alignment across product, infrastructure, and cross-functional stakeholders in a globally distributed setup.

Accountabilities:
  • Lead day-to-day engineering execution for web applications, ensuring clarity of priorities, ownership, timelines, dependencies, and quality expectations across the team.
  • Manage and mentor engineers and contractors, providing coaching, feedback, performance support, and long-term career development.
  • Define and improve team operating rhythms, including planning, prioritization, release processes, and cross-functional coordination.
  • Translate product strategy and technical direction into structured engineering plans and measurable delivery outcomes.
  • Oversee team resource planning and budgeting, including contractor management, tooling, and operational spending inputs.
  • Strengthen engineering practices across code review, testing, documentation, CI/CD, observability, incident response, and release readiness.
  • Partner closely with cross-functional stakeholders to coordinate launches, manage risks, and ensure operational reliability and scalability.
  • Maintain sufficient technical depth to evaluate architectural tradeoffs, system risks, and engineering quality decisions effectively.
Requirements
  • 15+ years of overall engineering experience, including 10+ years in engineering leadership roles within SaaS, cloud-based, or complex web application environments.
  • 5+ years of people management experience, including coaching senior engineers, setting expectations, and supporting performance and growth.
  • Proven experience leading distributed engineering teams and working across product, infrastructure, SRE, and cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Strong ability to translate strategic objectives into clear execution plans, delivery frameworks, and team operating models.
  • Solid technical depth in web application architecture, system design, release processes, observability, security, and operational reliability.
  • Experience managing engineering delivery in environments requiring high accountability, predictable execution, and strong quality standards.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to drive alignment, clarity, and follow-through in ambiguous or evolving environments.
  • Experience using or evaluating AI-enabled tools to improve engineering workflows, productivity, and decision-making responsibly.
  • Familiarity with modern engineering toolchains (CI/CD, issue tracking, code review, monitoring, documentation systems).
  • Experience in open-source or community-driven environments is a strong plus.
Benefits
  • Fully remote work with flexible scheduling
  • Competitive salary aligned to Canadian market benchmarks (CAD $155,000–$180,000 range)
  • Annual bonus program and potential additional compensation
  • Comprehensive health, dental, vision, disability, and life insurance coverage
  • RRSP retirement contributions
  • Generous PTO including holidays, wellbeing days, birthday leave, and year-end shutdown
  • Paid parental leave and sick leave
  • Home office setup support, stipends, and professional development budget
  • Access to conferences, learning opportunities, and global team gatherings
  • Strong emphasis on work-life balance, autonomy, and distributed collaboration.
