Mechanical Engineering Support Intern
Houston, TX
Timeframe: 2026 Fall
Part-time, minimum of 20 hours per week
Tasks supporting the International Space Station contract include providing engineering support services, and resources for activities related to the International Space Station (ISS) including managing many of the station’s systems.
The intern typically assists with the design, analysis, and testing of mechanical components and systems for the ISS. Working alongside engineers, tasks can include creating CAD models, performing stress analysis, developing prototypes, and supporting component testing. The intern may have the opportunity to collaborate with senior engineers and other team members on projects related to mechanical systems like landing gear, propulsion systems, or structural components.
Primary responsibilities include:- Assist and support the management of interface control documents (ICD). ICDs provide a record of interface information including drawings, diagrams, tables, and textual information generated for a project.
- Support the management of the on-orbit core software and Interface Control Documents including the integration and programmatic approval of ICD changes and document revisions.
- Assist with the development and maintenance of payload interface requirements and help with the processing of ICD updates by completing verification and reporting documents.
Course of study desired: Mechanical Engineering
Specific skills and expertise desired: Experience in Windows or Linux based MATLAB is highly desired.
Other general experience, skills desired: Good communication skills and the ability to organize and manage tasks successfully.
