Sr. Sales Underwriter

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Sr. Sales Underwriter based in United States.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Inland Marine underwriting professional to manage a profitable portfolio while building strong relationships with agency partners across a designated territory. In this role, you will combine technical underwriting expertise with business development and distribution management to deliver tailored insurance solutions for complex commercial risks. Working in a collaborative and entrepreneurial environment, you will influence portfolio growth, drive customer satisfaction, and contribute to long-term profitability. You will partner with cross-functional teams, risk engineering professionals, and agency networks to identify opportunities, develop customized coverage strategies, and strengthen market presence. This position is ideal for a relationship-focused underwriter who thrives on balancing analytical decision-making with strategic sales initiatives.

Accountabilities:
  • Underwrite and manage a portfolio of Inland Marine business by evaluating complex commercial risks, determining appropriate pricing, coverage structures, policy terms, and underwriting strategies that support profitable growth.
  • Analyze financial information, historical loss data, and industry trends to assess risk exposure and develop effective underwriting and pricing decisions.
  • Collaborate with risk engineering professionals and internal stakeholders to implement loss prevention initiatives and customized risk mitigation solutions for clients.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with agency partners through consultative account management, business development activities, agency reviews, and ongoing support to drive profitable submissions and long-term retention.
  • Develop tailored insurance solutions by leveraging specialized endorsements, coverage options, and policy structures that meet customer needs while maintaining underwriting discipline.
  • Ensure compliance with underwriting guidelines, regulatory requirements, and internal standards through thorough documentation and sound decision-making.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives by identifying process enhancements, sharing best practices, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to improve operational effectiveness.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of commercial insurance underwriting experience.
  • At least 5 years of specialized experience underwriting monoline Inland Marine insurance products.
  • Proven track record of successful production underwriting and profitable portfolio management.
  • Strong understanding of Inland Marine coverages, policy construction, pricing methodologies, risk analysis, and loss prevention strategies.
  • Excellent relationship management, sales, negotiation, and business development skills with experience working closely with independent agency partners.
  • Strong analytical, financial, critical thinking, and problem-solving capabilities with the ability to evaluate complex commercial risks.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills with strong organizational and documentation abilities.
  • Ability to work independently in a collaborative, entrepreneurial environment while managing multiple priorities effectively.
  • Willingness to travel up to 25% within the assigned territory.
  • Valid driver's license required.
