Position Summary
The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) provides direct patient care to Veterans in an inpatient and long-term care setting under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). Responsibilities include assisting patients with activities of daily living, monitoring patient conditions, documenting care, and supporting a safe, high-quality healthcare environment.
Essential Duties
Provide direct patient care, including bathing, dressing, toileting, grooming, feeding, and linen changes.
Assist patients with ambulation, transfers, lifting, repositioning, and mobility.
Obtain and document vital signs, height, weight, intake/output, oxygen saturation, and specimen collection as directed.
Observe patients, report changes in physical or mental condition, and respond appropriately to emergencies.
Accurately document care provided in accordance with VA policies and electronic medical record requirements.
Maintain patient privacy, confidentiality, infection control, and safety standards.
Perform other patient care duties as assigned within the CNA scope of practice.
Qualifications
Requirements
Current, unrestricted Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification.
Minimum one (1) year of CNA experience within the last three (3) years.
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (AHA or equivalent).
U.S. citizen or authorized to work as required by the VA.
Ability to successfully complete VA credentialing, background investigation, fingerprinting, orientation, and required training before providing patient care.
Ability to work 8- to 12-hour shifts, including days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays as required
Working Conditions and Environment
This position is on-site in a medical facility. Driving may be required.
Physical Requirements
The position requires repetitive motion, such as standing, walking, sitting and bending. Light lifting, up to 20 pounds, may be required.
