Overview

The College of Arts & Science is seeking an experienced Associate Dean to join the team. Under the direction of the Dean for the College of Arts & Science (CAS), and in conjunction with the priorities of the Dean for the Faculty of Arts and Science, oversee the administration of the College’s curriculum. Build trusted partnerships with faculty and department leaders, facilitating consensus around college-wide academic priorities. Work effectively in a shared governance culture. Advise and collaborate with faculty to develop academic proposals for new seminars, programs, and minor or major tracks to reflect changing student and College interests and academic goals. Oversee collaborations between CAS and the Provost to develop special curriculum for cross-school and global initiatives such as portal campus (NYU-AD, NYU-SH) and global site engagement. Supervise the development and expansion of global curricular pathways in the NYU global network. Serve as primary staff person overseeing CAS academic policies related to accreditation and NYS Department of Education regulations. Partner with all academic departments and programs on strategies to improve retention and success and time to degree through pedagogy, innovative curricular endeavors, and other faculty focused support, training and interventions. Oversee all assessment activities for CAS relating to curriculum planning, enrollment trends and outcomes measures. Implement outcomes assessment measures, tracking and helping departments plan curriculum that enables timely completion of degrees, utilizing innovative course plans including online and other curriculum planning strategies. Promote curricular innovation and enhancements across CAS, partnering with faculty and departments on new courses, programs and pedagogy.



Responsibilities

Required Education:
Doctoral Degree

Preferred Education:
Doctoral Degree in a Liberal Arts subject

Required Experience:
10+ years relevant experience in academic planning, curriculum development, recruitment, admissions, student affairs, and managing budgets or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Previous staff supervision required.

Preferred Experience:
Higher education experience at a senior level working on academic policy, curricular planning/innovation, and faculty engagement.

Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Superior strategic planning, interpersonal, and communication skills (both written and oral). Proven ability to implement and evaluate programs and counsel students and faculty. Ability to articulate policy to members of the internal and external community; detailed knowledge of academic practices. The ability to build trusted relationships across diverse faculty constituencies, facilitate complex academic conversations, navigate shared governance, influence without relying on formal authority, and develop broad ownership around College-wide initiatives.



Qualifications

In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is USD $165,000.00 to USD $185,000.00. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as, market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. This pay range represents base pay only and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses, clinical compensation, or other items.
