Job SummaryThe UT MAUS Level II NDI Technician is responsible for performing advanced ultrasonic inspections using the Manual Analysis Ultrasonic System (MAUS) to detect and evaluate flaws in composite and metallic aircraft structures. Operating within the Aircraft Maintenance Group at Tinker AFB, this technician ensures compliance with U.S. Air Force NDI standards and contributes to maintaining flight safety and aircraft readiness. The ideal candidate brings hands-on experience with MAUS equipment and Level II ultrasonic testing certification per NAS 410 or equivalent.
Responsibilities- Perform Level II ultrasonic testing (UT) using MAUS systems on aircraft components, composite skins, and bonded assemblies.
- Analyze MAUS data and signals to identify subsurface defects, delaminations, corrosion, and material degradation.
- Accurately interpret technical data, engineering drawings, and inspection procedures to ensure reliable results.
- Document inspection findings, generate detailed reports, and maintain compliance records in accordance with DoD and USAF standards.
- Interface with quality assurance representatives and aircraft maintenance personnel to ensure continuity of inspections and corrective actions.
- Maintain equipment readiness and conduct calibrations per applicable standards and manufacturer guidance.
- Assist with the development or refinement of MAUS scanning procedures and techniques.
- Support inspections in other NDI methods as qualified (e.g., eddy current, dye penetrant, magnetic particle, x-ray).
- Follow all safety, hazardous material, and environmental guidelines associated with inspection activities.
- Participate in periodic refresher training to maintain Level II certification and proficiency.
- Certification as Level II in Ultrasonic Testing (UT) per NAS 410, ASNT SNT-TC-1A, or comparable military standard.
- Demonstrated experience operating MAUS (Manual Analysis Ultrasonic System) equipment in aerospace applications.
- Proficiency in interpreting scan data and applying applicable acceptance/rejection criteria.
- Familiarity with aircraft structures and composite material behaviors under stress.
- Ability to work independently or collaboratively as part of a maintenance and inspection team.
- Proficient in report generation, technical documentation, and Microsoft Office applications.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Active Secret Clearance (or eligibility to obtain).
- Preferred but not required: Certification or experience in EVI.
