ABOUT INSIGHT SCHOOLS OF CALIFORNIA AND THE ACADEMIC GROWTH ADVOCATE POSITION:Insight Schools of California (a network of three public charter schools) delivers online/virtual home based-instruction to students in grades 9-12 in California. Insight Schools of California serves at-risk students. We use Stride as our curriculum provider for the basis of instruction and teachers provide live instruction via the Engageli platform. While our schools do offer some scheduling flexibility, students are still required to maintain daily attendance, attend instructional sessions, and complete their coursework each day.All staff members provide students with individualized attention, maintain ongoing communication with learning coaches, and attend professional development meetings (virtual and in-person). Insight staff members contribute to a positive school culture by engaging in meaningful team collaboration and focusing on the needs of all students. Staff members also meet with students during testing and at in-person events.Academic Growth Advocates manage and support an assigned caseload of students who have been placed on academic probation or referred by teachers for extra support by forging positive relationships through regular meetings and sending back on track plans to help students pass courses. Additionally, they facilitate and contribute to RAISE Team initiatives including orienting new students to Insight, conducting family outreach, creating videos, hosting Strong Start family meetings, monitoring student participation, and handling other items designated as part of the RAISE program.
HOURS AND SALARY INFORMATION:
Full Time: Monday-Friday 8:00am-5:00pm

Full time Academic Growth Advocate:
Hourly Rate: $20.25

OVERVIEW:
Virtual schools are new models in public education. They look both backward to what we know works well in educating children, and forward to see how technology can help us implement these strategies with children. Virtual school staff are part of a pioneering effort. Our support staff, therefore, need to share the School’s pioneering mission and approach
SUMMARY:
Academic Growth Advocate will assist students with academic learning by providing strategic services that identify and address course progress struggles that interfere with the educational process. This position responds to academic course progress directly and works both virtually and in-person in the community with families. The Academic Growth Advocate works collaboratively with staff, and teachers to create back-on-track plans to support students who need additional assistance with organizational strategies and academic progress assistance
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The below statements are intended to describe the general nature and scope of work being performed by this position. • Assists with Social Emotion school clubs as designated by admin
• Manage and assist assigned struggling student caseload who need additional academic support to get back on track by forging a relationship with positive reinforcement that fosters the desire to become successful
• Facilitate Strong Start to Strong Finish Program and deliver strong start sessions, which includes orienting new students to Insight, creating videos, hosting Strong Start Family meetings, monitoring student participation, onboarding, coordinating with the team for the delivery of these sessions, and handling other items designated as part of the program
• Updates and revises SSO, SSO Newsletters, SSO Survey, W2C and other strong start documents
• Runs SSOs weekly during open enrollment periods
• Assists with W2C as directed by admin
• Assists with Assessment Assemblies as directed by admin
• Create, disseminate, and maintain resources for students and families
• Support students and learning coaches throughout Tiers II – IV in the RAISE Program
• Meet with students virtually and/or in person to offer individualized support and small- group sessions for students, parents and learning coaches
• Use all available methods of contact and document contact attempts as directed
• Receive student referrals from teachers, administrators and staff members and provide support in 1:1, small group and large group settings
• Collaborate with the Retention and Academic Intuitive Support Experts (RAISE Team) counselors, teachers, parents, administrators, and other school staff to ascertain students’ academic needs and create Back on Track (BOT) plans.
• Communicate with parents as needed, which includes but is not limited to: Calling students and parents
• Emailing and texting students and parents
• Meeting students and parents in online virtual platform
• Returning phone calls/emails ASAP but no longer than 24 hours later
• Attend all in-person meetings as scheduled
• Attend staff meetings and attending and participating in school and k12 sponsored trainings and meetings
• Assists with onboarding, I.E. Welcome Calls, etc. as directed by admin
• Communicates with teachers and administration as needed, which includes but is not limited to:
• Calling and/or emailing teachers as needed
• Returning phone calls/emails ASAP but no longer than 24 hours later
• Attends all in-person meetings as scheduled
• Assists with testing as directed by administration
• Attends staff meetings and attends and participates in school and k12 sponsored trainings and meetings
• Fulfills other Duties as assigned
MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) Certificate and
• One (1) year of related experience

• Ability to obtain fingerprint clearance

This position is a virtual position working from a home office. Must have ability to travel throughout the school year within and between assigned geographic areas to support students, attend regularly scheduled meetings, proctor state exams and participate in school activities and orientations.
